TV to Receiver question

Hi - I have an Onkyo TXSR600, and a 7 yr old Toshiba 32 inch TV, all flowing into Polk 6700s.

Everything is working fine, except that I would like to listen to TV thru my Polks. My TV has RCA audio out LR which I have run into my receiver's video 3 (and audio LR) connection. When I select video 3 on the Onkyo, I hear nothing. I have tried with video 2, same result. The DVD to receiver works fine, as does the VCR to TV.

Why can't I watch TV and listen thru my receiver?

Thanks

Sometimes you have to turn off the TV speakers to go external. Check out your setup options on the TV and see if you can do it.

Yes, the RCA's provided by your TV aren't always "Hot". Check your menu options for a audio option for this like Ken mentioned. If possible, use your cable box/DSS RCA audio outs, that way you won't have to worry about that option.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

Thanks. I already tried turning off the speakers. I'll try the cable box option tomorrow. If that works, I'm gonna buy a coaxial digital audio cable.

    Will post tomorrow.

I have the same receiver. Basically your receiver has default setting when it is shipped and yours is probably looking for sound from one of theOptical Inputs. Try this:
    1. Turn on the receiver choose Vedeo 3.
    2. Next from your remote Choose the setup menu.
    3. On the display on the receiver you will have choices to scroll through.
    4. Scroll down to Input Setup.
The default may be OPT. 2 or 1? Change(scroll right) this so that it reads "---" . that should solve your problem.

One more thing. I have my tv through the receiver also. I have it hooked up two different ways.

I have the HDTV box linked to the receiver via Digital Optical cable to Input OPT2 on the receiver. Which is linked with my video 1 source. (you'll get the optimal sound this way IMO)

My composite connections are escaping me right now, i will have to check when I get home and get back to you on it.

    Also,
there is a diagram/chart in your Onkyo manual that explains the flow of Input to Output on the receiver connections.
    hope this helps

Thanks very much. As Ken suggested, i turned off the TV speakers. What I neglected to do, was increase the volume using the TV remote. Apparently you have to use both that and the rcvr volume control to work.

I will also experiment with mccarts747 suggestion. At least I know it works!

    Thanks again
