A question and observation.....

First the observation:
I have a Rotel 960bx amp and shortened the cord on it today to 3 ft outside the unit (from 6 ft).
I had an Oyaide P-029 (male plug) laying in a drawer for some time, and decided to terminate the Rotel with that.
Listened to it for an hour or so.
Swapped it to back to the Hubbell HBL8215c.
The Hubbell won hands down.
No comparison.
The Oyaide cost $65 + shipping, the Hubbell $7.50/shipped!
The Oyaide had better bass, but that was it.
The Hubbell smoked it in terms of top end extension, better dynamics, mids and overall more "musicality".
Don't waste your money.

My question:
I do not want to install an IEC cup on this amp.
I would however like to install better power cable (has 18/2 zipcord).
The amp only consumes 300 watts.
Can I get away with using 18 ga. chassis wire, say Neotech or Furutech for the power cable on this amp?
I need something easy to solder and work with (May leave the solid core Neotech out of the race:frown:).
Probably need stranded.

I just don't want to add another connection (IEC input), and there is really no need to run big power cables to it anyway seeing it is only 18 ga to start with.
I can see moving up to 16 ga but it may not be necessary either.
It sounds great now, but may sound better removing the factory zip cord.
Any suggestions?

I am thinking about replacing all the fuses with Acme, and doing the power cable thing.
Seems reasonably cheap to tweak this amp.
Can't really find any info on the chassis wire as far as current goes, it seems it is designed primarily for "signal".

Anyone use "chassis hookup wire" as a power cord?
Just want to make sure before I commit, as I have never done it.
Thanks in advance.

Get some Beldon power cable from partsexpress and a good plug. Heavier gage wire helps clean the sound up. Don't ask me why, but it does. Don't waste your time with anything less than 14ga.
Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.
    Thanks

I would love to, but will have to check to see if it will fit in the hole.
God, If I had a dollar for everytime I said that!
If it will, I would LOVE to put some Furutech Ag314 in that baby!
