I bought an old beat up Dodge D50 pick up truck from my boss in 1994 for $1. I had it for about 9 months and I hit a deer with it and it was totaled. Insurance company paid me $2600 for the truck and I bought a used 1992 Rolex Submariner Date and put a down payment on a 1984 Hunter 25.5 sail boat. All in all a pretty good deal from my stand point.

I still have the watch and the boat, because of the economy the boat may be gone by spring and I do not wear the watch very often anymore.

I think I will wear the watch today to my grandmothers 90 th birthday party.

$50 for a Casio. I usually have a cell phone but it is easier to look at the watch than get the cellphone out of it's case. Mine gets a radio signal tied to the atomic clock in Ft. Collins, Colorado so is accurate to a few seconds, always.
I have a different watch, also $50, for snorkeling.

Ah, this is the only thing that drives me more than music-watches! There is no limit to what I would spend on a watch! I own a Ball Trainmaster, Rolex Sub, Panerai 183 and IWC 7 day Portuguese. I also own numerous vintage watches and pocket watches. My dream is to own a Patek Phillippe with a porcelain dial and half hunter case. The point is, you can spend millions on a watch and as an enthusiast, there is no limit to what you can spend, just like with anything else. It just depends on how crazy you are about it.

For me, 0, nada, nil, nothing. I don't wear one. For my wife I'd look at $100-200 range unless she mentioned something she wanted. OTOH, if I spent $100 on a watch my wife would kill me. She's very frugal about stuff like that.

The most I've spent is $1200 on a beautiful white on white porcelain piece with only a simple ruby marker. simply stunning.

I have a few more expensive watches but i paid much less  Cronus bubble, and my pride and joy: and inherited Blancpaine Fifty Fathoms that is safely kept in the a safe-deposit box at an undisclosed location

but I'm more into fashion watches and keeping em fresh  and like i said above, i hardly ever spend $250 for those

I wont say how much they cost but I have two Patek Philippe watches along with another almost of the same quality. Lets just say you could buy a house or two if I sold them. These watches only gain value in case you're wondering why I would spend so much. Lastly, if I were to lose one, no big deal. I would just buy another. Forgot to add, I have no limit really, if I like it I buy it, period. You only live once so enjoy it while you can. You can't take it with you.

    my kind of guy.

I held a patek on two occasions (same one, twice) and I have to say I was completely enamored with the leather band. It was the most supple detailed band I'd ever seen. Amazing. The timepiece was nice too ;) haha

$4100 for this TAG Heuer a couple of weeks ago. Heck, even the box it came in was leather bound and beautiful. Enjoyed looking at nice watches for 30 years and finally felt like I could do it so I did.

My Breitling Super Ocean was my last purchase. Just under 2k out the door. I absolutely love having a nice watch though. I'll probably put a 4-5k limit on my next purchase. I know it seems like a lot, but I suppose this is my equivalent to owning really nice gear like some of you do. And I plan on willing my watch collection to my nephew when I die. He'll either have a nice collection, or sell them off and have a bundle of money. He wins either way.

Guess I'm doing something right heh? Got a Breitling Bentley Motors timepiece today. Very nice and solid watch. The craftsmanship is amazing.

Just a quick pic since I opened it in the office. Yes I like to doodle on my calendar when I'm on the phone with conference calls.

3k on a Breitling Transocean. I have loved nice watches since I was young, just like collecting other things including high end audio gear.

$1800.00 Movado for a night on the town. $100.00 Fossil or Relic for day to day I have many Fossil and Relic watches.

And a really cheapo $12.00 WalMart watch for under the car and yard work. I don't even know the brand. Now that's a cheap watch.

I almost always have a watch on.

My price limit for a watch is 1000, but my favorite, by far, is my bulova precisionist which was around 500. The nylon band and titanium case make for a comfy daily wearer and the less than 10s/year accuracy ensures I am always on time.

    96B132_v2.jpg?1287524053

I had considered getting a Rolex or Tag, just to have, but... I simply can't justify that price for a watch in my mind. I'd rather spend it on my other toys or cigars. But, since every man should probably have an automatic swiss watch (as well as a tux, fine shoes/suit), I do have a Swiss Army auto lying around.

I have a few $150 Invicta and Swiss Army watches. I've also spent similar amounts on Bulovas, but they always seem to break. One day I'd like to own a Rolex GMT Master II in plain steel though.

Great thread, you guys sure know your watches. I bought a new STORM watch for back in 1999 for 100 bucks that lasted me 10 yrs. of daily wear through work and play. The thing was a well made watch and although I had to replace the battery every 2 or 3 yrs, and the pins for the metal wriststrap. The thing had a sweet movement, probably a Citizen's Japanese Miyota movement, but I'm no expert on movements. Eventually the crytal got broken and dirt, moisture got into the movement etc, decided to get another watch.Happy to have gotten so much use from it:) Has anyone had any experience owning an XOSKELETON watch?

Right now my budget only allows about a hundred dollars but this is pretty nice for that price and fully functional. I love chronographs.

I have a nice Seiko with only the hands, no numbers on the face. I forgot what it cost around 30 years ago. The battery ran down about 10 years ago, and I never replaced it, since everywhere I look there is a clock.
