Thanks guys. I'm one of those long time listener, first time callers. I just created an account on here once i picked up the SRTs. I've been sticking my head in here for quite some time now. Owned various sets of polks. monitors: 10's, 7's, 5jr, 5jr+, car audio :ex, dB, momos, MM's, and SR6500's. I still have the 7's with the peerless tweeters. I sold my magnepan 3.6's to my father and picked up the SRT's these are apples and oranges. If i want 2ch listening, i'll go to the "listening" room and fire up the tubes on the martin logan odysseys. traded some carver amazings for them and never looked back. (maybe if i find some platinums) I love to tinker with audio gear, currently playing with the Adcom GFA-5802, Parasound Halo A21, McIntosh Mc602 on the solid end, and playing with smooth plate telefunkens on the single-ended triode end. When it's cold outside, there's plenty to do inside :) You know it's cold when you start your car and it says this, even in texas!

Btw, you're going to cause damage to the subs if you play them that loud.
Trim the volume to 12 o clock and start adjustment in music mode, not video mode.

That was for photo purposes only :) I usually run it in normal or wide sda mode and in music mode at -10 or -20 dB for the subs. video mode to me is just overkill.

I pulled my buddy away from working on his viper to show him this post. he owns my old carver amazings and got a little upset at my comment lol.

I do have a question as far as bi amp and tri amp. I noticed the sda drivers on the mains play at about 40% the volume of the stereo side. Wondering what power you recommend going to the stereo vs sda inputs. i haven't checked the resistance of the terminals, but are they 4 and 4 ohms or 4 and 8? the previous owner had the stereo and sda inputs in parallel. i was thinking of tinkering with them in series, or sticking an adcom 5ch THX GFA-7500 (225w into 4ohms) on the mains. may tri amp them, but figured i'd just leave the jumpers on the high inputs. do they really come to live by bi-wiring? if so, then the 5802 will go straight to the stereo inputs and the parasound a21 will go thru the sda controller and into the sda inputs. i've got a bunch of amps to play with. i might use the single remaining channel from the adcom gfa-7500 to goto the center or an old hafler 110 to bi amp the center. I have a hunch after playing with all the different amps and ways to bi-amp that i'm not going to remember what sounds good.

What size subs are in the SRT's and how many sub drivers? Which amp sounds best to you, the Adcom 5802 or Halo a21?

    Thanks

each SRT sub containe 2 10-inch woofers. mw1080 and a mw1082. only difference i can tell is the top most driver in each cabinet is shielded. they are the dymanic balance woofers similiar to the earlier dB series car woofer but with a light weight cone. the 5802 has mosfets and are known to sound "edgy" sometimes on the highs compared to the bi-polars in the Halo A21 but i can't tell the difference between the two on the SRTs. I turned it up to full volume for a quick blast on the Halo and the clip lights never started to light. the SRT's can definetly take some power. currently i am running the output of the 2ch amp into the control center and it branches out to the stereo and sda inputs from there. I guess i'm trying to get a little more clarity from it. coming from maggie 3.6's this will be hard to do. the SRT's truly shine when watching a movie that's for sure.

The halo series is a great matching amp for the SRT. I run mine with an A51/A21 combo. The SRT are 4 ohm per side. I do biwire but I didn't hear any improvements by triamping. The SRT can handle 1000 watts per channel but you have to remember that each subwoofer is driven by a 300 watt plate amplifier. I powered my set briefly with a 500 wpc amp and didn't like how they matched with the amplified subs.

I noticed i'm continiously adjusting the sub level depending on the recording. i usually run the music mode control between -20 and -10dB. subs sound good, did a sweep on them and they start to drop off below 20Hz. the mains go pretty low themselves. I think a good 300wpc amp is plenty enough to blend with the subs. I blasted a few THX intros and the mains were starting to walk away from the subs. I was very impressed at the SPL of these speakers for home theater. There's not much out there that can touch these w/o going to an elaborate setup :) thanks for all the tips guys.

My ideal setup would be to biamp the SRT with two Halo A21/A51.

how much power do the SDA inputs need on mains? i assume it's reduced volume is there for a reason. to me the sda off/normal/wide switch is an attenuator. i think i read somewhere that it alters the bass in the center as well. i don't want to unbalance the system by having mismatched amps on the stereo inputs vs. sda inputs. I'm trying to tweak the system as much as i can to bring it to life. I'm starting out by using a parasound A21 into the control module and out to the mains for now. sounds good, i just think the highs could be a little more refined. i noticed a slight 60Hz hum from the subs when they are active. (ground loop) even when in standby the transformer is pretty noisy. thought about floating them but a little nervous. heat sink gets pretty warm during operation. also i have 1 subwoofer preout on the back of my HK. currently it's a single cable into the sda control center (switched to mono) and single out into one sub, and daisy chained to the other sub. do you recommend a Y cord into the controller and a seperate line out to each sub? it's still mono no matter how you slice it, unless you get a Y cord coming out of the front left and right preouts. then you lose the LFE effect. i'm trying not to introduce any noise or more hum. sorry for all the questions. just dont want to miss out on a "must do" for these speakers.
