Spikes

This by far has been the cheapest and most simplest mod yet. I ask myself why I didnt do this long ago? I replaced the flat feet with spikes.
First, the vocals are more focalized, the bass is more defined and spark more detail. I listened to Robin Trower's "bridge of sighs" on MFSL gold cd and it was breathtaking! this is the best I have heard my srs sda 3.1 TL's as yet. The bass is no longer "boomy" I can testify to hearing the bassist bang his strings and the drummer hitting his bass drum as to now being two different instruments. No longer as just one as before.
All I can say is.... SDA owners! if you havent done this yet? do it now! This is NOT suptle.

edit: sorry cant upload pics right now.

Sal, they may make an upgrade in your case, but I'd avoid PE's spikes, you'll break them with those monkey coffins.

I say it all the time "SPIKE YOUR SDA's!!!!!!!!" it changes everything in the lower end of the SDA's. by far one of the best tweeks I have ever done..

Sal, buy some good spikes with the pads for hardwood floors,as Mike said the ones from PE will be hard to hold the weight of the BIG BOYS. spend the extra cash for some nice brass ones..

Does anyone know if the Parts Express spikes work with the CRS stands? If no what's a good way to spike them.

Any spike with a 1/4-20 thread pattern will work on Polk speakers. That said, the large spikes at Parts Express are too large for the CRS stands. You want ones that are no more than 3/4" diameter at the top. Mye Sound sells them.

Those look nice but I'm strapped for cash at the moment. These have the right measurements and they're dang cheap too, does the quality of the spike make a big difference in the sound? http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=249-727

Many feel that the material makes a difference, with brass being the preferred choice. That said, spiked is better than not.

Since this will be a very, very cheap upgrade I'll go with it. Maybe down the road I'll pick up some of the Mye Sound ones. Thanks.

I too was skeptical at first as I already had tremendous bass coming from my speakers, then the mortite, then the dynamat, then a speaker wire upgrade, then the inductor upgrade. How can spikes make a difference? Well, I gave it a shot with MyeSound MyeSpikes Brass and I am still hearing a difference for the better!!!

Go for it Sal!!! Make sure you get it from Myesound. They are well worth it!!!

Will MYESOUND make the larger Spikes in 1/4-20 ?

    Sal,

I talked with grant awhile back... He does make larger spike but not in 1/4 in. It will be perhaps 3/8 or 5/16 in. I cant remember which. So if you drill out for tee nuts etc. You are pretty much set in the larger dia. thereafter. I agree with Jesse that some spikes are better than no spikes. I will try to upload pics again.

    Matt

Is anyone experiencing problems uploading pics?

    These are 1/4"-20 solid steel!
I mean you will have to oil them or they will rust "solid steel"
I bought 32 of them and have been impressed, fit stock RT-10 threaded inserts.

Oops, guess I should have read the whole thread?

When I took them off of the movers dollies, I turned them upside-down and fixed the bases and spiked at the same time.

I used Parts express threaded inserts and their spikes. The original inserts were pretty much useless. The interconnecting sockets were useless also.

I still need to get my RT3000P's off their dollies too. In time.

I'm ordering spikes from myesound as soon I get a call back from them. Points and pads actually. I can't wait to hear the difference.

Anybody know what I'm going to need in the way of T-nuts or will I be able to just screw them into the current floor pad threads?
