Denon POA 2200

Just purchased a Denon POA 2200 off of ebay. Thing is a monster. It has a cool cd only input, and I have connected my old Yamaha cd player with remote and gain control.

Pure analog.

I am stunned, and also wonder why this feature is not offered today. Funny thing is that I have had the cd player since the late 80's, but just got the amp yesterday. But, the amp is from the same time period.

Do understand that the cd player has a gain(volume) control. The amp is a dual mono design, and has gain for each channel as well.

Just having fun.

You're right. That Denon is a nice piece and it is true that their offerings (two channel) are not what they used to be....at least IMO.

Enjoy....a lot of nice vintage stuff is still out there.

I connected the unit to some Realistic Minimus 7 speakers just to test. Shocked is not the word for what happened next.

I jumped right on ebay to see how much my little Minimus 7's were worth these days. Shocked to find out they sort-of have a cult following. The little gems say "Custom Made In Japan For Radio Shack" on the back. I have had them forever, and they have been used in my non-climate controlled shop system for over eleven years.

BTW, they also say 40w max.

Awaiting the connection of my new 4ohm MB Quart QLS 830's. Amp supposed to be good for 300WPC @4ohm.

I have a pair of 7s on my desk as my PC speakers! They seem to last forever. And can be used in many applications...very nice for what they are and for such a small speaker.

Too bad the Shack bagged them. They've been made in Japan, Korea, and China over the years, and received a port for added bass at some point--but I still prefer the sealed design?

    Mine are sealed.

The last time I checked, they were called RCA. Seem to be done now.

I got these when I was probably 16. They have been used in so many applications, I wouldn't know where to start.

Just utterly impressed with this amp, and the way it is able to be used. All the chase there seems to be for a pure analog signal these days, and it was offered in the 80's. Apparently, it didn't catch-on.

    I caught it now.

    True, true.

It would cost $2500 to get half the power offered by the the POA 2200 I purchased.

I had a similar amp, the Denon POA-1500 and it had a very sweet sound. Nice amp!

Traded for a Colt Gold Cup Series 70 .45 pistol. Had a lot of custom work done to it, probably worth around $1,800. I bought the POA2200 and a PRA1500 from a pawn shop for $115.

I would do that deal again.
