Seen this question in another forum area so I figured I'd give it a go on the Polk Forum, here goes...
What is/was the biggest improvement in everyone's Home Theater System ? Meaning, what is/was the one piece of equipment that made the largest improvement in your H/T. It could be more than one piece, just want to know what it is. Figured we could have some fun with this one...

Biggest improvement, was MIT cables on my then CD player.
F1Nut let me borrow a pair and it was amazing what they did for my modest system.CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint. -
this is easy for me.. external amps! It improved the quality I was hearing and kicked it up a few notches. I'll probably never run a HT without external amps ever again. The amp(s) made everything sound better, cleaner, clearer, and just all around boosted the level of quality.
amps are
Adcom 5400 2 ch 125w
3 Marantz mono blocks 125w (each)PolkFest 2012, who's going>?
Vancouver, Canada Sept 30th, 2012 - Madonna concert  -
Without a doubt it was my investment in the SVS dual 20-39 CS+.
Then the Outlaw Amp, an external DAC and the Audio Alchemy DTI.

The biggest improvement, taking the HT out of the house and building a dedicated room.
Next up would be going from a 46" RPTV to an 80" FP. Nothing can put the home in home theater like a huge picture.
After that, going with separate amps all aournd.
Peace Out~:DIf...

Ron loves a film = don't even rent. -
Stepping up from a Polk sub to a Velodyne SPL
-
aiwa receiver avd57 to a marantz sr7200

Replacing my Polk Sub with the SVS 20-39PCi made my entire system come to life. When it comes to home theater or music, there is no substitute for clean accurate base. SVS is the "Bass Authority"

Anthem AVM-20 preamp that replaced my PE receiver. The Pioneer did a great job, but the Anthem is so much better!

I will follow you into the Canadian Abyss as soon as my girls are safe. That is a very nice pre/pro IMO

Going from an entry level Onkyo to a mid level Yamaha finally to a Rotel receiver.
Close second is going from RT35i mains to Paradigm Studio 40 mains to finally LSi 15's for mains.

1. Polk speakers all around instead of the mix and match speaker system I had before.
2. Upgrading my receiver to an Onkyo. Although my older Kenwood had more power for the front soundstage at 120 wpc, the Onkyo has dedicated power all around and also has dts decoding and the Kenwood did not. The Onkyo brought the Polks to life.
3. Possibly when I get an SVS sub in the near future, THIS may be the biggest improvement! We'll see.Mains: polkaudio RTi70's (bi-wired)
Center: polkaudio CSi40 (bi-wired)
Surrounds: polkaudio FXi30's
Rear Center: polkaudio CSi30
Sub: SVS 20-39 PC+
Receiver: ONKYO TX-SR600
Display: JVC HD-56G786
DVD Player: SONY DVP-CX985V
DVD Player: OPPO DV-981HD 1080p High Definition Up-Converting Universal DVD Player with HDMI
Remote: Logitech Harmony H688 -
Going from a 27" Sony to a 48" widescreen Mitsubishi. Watching movies has never been better.

For me, I get the biggest kick out of speakers. They make the biggest difference in overall sound, and tonal signature. Some do things different, sometimes better than others. There are so many different components, and designs - and I can usually find redeeming qualities about most.
I enjoy nailing down a good back end, amp, source etc...then have fun putting different speakers in the mix.
Cheers

Here are my upgrades (In the order of improvment, the top one bringing the most improvement)
1. Replace PSW250 with SVS PB1
2. Add carver multichanel amp to the reciever
3. Going 7.1 using FXi30 on sides
4. Biwire mains using Monster XP cable-izafar
Goldenear Technology Triton 1 - Benchmark AHB2 - Benchmark LA4 - Auralic Vega - Auralic Aries Mini - Marantz TT-15S1 - Clearaudio Nano -
Back in the days when the whole of my speaker system was a pair of $70 Pioneers, I got me a PSW202. The pathetic 60hz F3 of the Pioneers left alot to the imagination, so even a little $200 sub impressed the hell out of me.

Without a doubt, The svs sub, the Monster bi-wire on mains & center, larger surround speakers.. and in a day or so, my new rear center speaker for ES formats..MY HT RIG:

2 Channel Rig:

Rotel 1080 stereo amp
