I have been in the market for a decent pair of vintage/near vintage with good efficiency and bass for a 2chnl integrated tube system. There is a pair of HPM 100 local to me.
Has anyone experienced this model
Thanks

Bass is a little sloppy, and the sound is not really anything to write home about, but you are in at a good pricepoint on those. There is a collectors market for them, and you should have no problem flipping them and making a decent profit if they don't blow your skirt up.

I remember back in the mid 70's ,they sold a boatload of these pioneer HPM 100's. Am I wrong to think they went for around $350.00 a pair new back then???Anybody remember?

Not a great speaker at all IMO. Vintage Polks or KEF's are so much better sounding. I'd use the Pioneer's in a garage or workshop rig, that's really all they are good for.
YMMV

The HPM 1100 is more of a "find" not so much with the HPM 100, 60 or 40. As Russ said, sloppy bass and I'll add zippy treble..you'll need to back that tweeter pad down to it's -3 setting unless you are a bat.Source: Bluesound Node 2i - Preamp/DAC: Benchmark DAC2 DX - Amp: Parasound Halo A21 - Speakers: MartinLogan Motion 60XTi - Shop Rig: Yamaha A-S501 Integrated - Shop Spkrs: Elac Debut 2.0 B5.2

I had the HPM-100 and they were the more desireable 200 watt version.
I thought they did everything right..

They get a lot of praise over on audiokarma. Of course so do Bose & CerwinVega...

The HPM-100 was intended to be the ultimate consumer manifestation of the JBL L100 (notice the similarity in the products' names?). Bart Locanthi (ex of JBL) was responsible for them. To their credit, the Pioneer "HPM" line evolved into a Pioneer pro-audio line called TAD (which to this day makes some astonishingly high-quality drivers at fairly astronomical prices).
The HPM-100s are not likely to appeal much to Polk Audio fans and the graphite-cone woofers are rather physically fragile. The thing about these is that they're actually fairly efficient and would likely sound far better driven by a high-quality fleapowered or low powered vacuum tube amp than the soiled state behemoths that their fans seemingly all prefer.
FWIW I have a pair of HPM-1100s which have more robust woofer cones and actually don't sound too bad driven by a vacuum tube amp.
One certainly wouldn't accuse the drivers as being cheaply made. Their pseudo-JBL-ness is pretty evident, too.

Yep, those cast aluminum baskets sure are cool.
They need to put plexiglass in the sides of the cabinets so people can see them.
I'd like to own a pair of the acrylic boxed HPM-100's they made for dealers. Most people just listen to music and watch movies. I EXPERIENCE them.
