setting crossover in car audio

Are these your main speakers, subwoofers, or both? A good point to start out at is 80Hz. If your mains can dig deeper without affecting clarity or becoming distorted, then feel free to set your crossover lower. Personally, I cross mine over at 60Hz because my main speakers can get the job done cleanly down to there.

Here are the details of my speakers and head unit.

Front speakers:polk db401 - fre. response :85hz to 22khz
back speakers: polk momo MMC690: FREQUENCY RESPONSE:33hz to 25khz
head unit : pioneer DEH4290SD/XNID

Kidly let me know as to whether i can use the hpf setting in headunit.it is upto125hz. I am fosgate amp wherin i have lp,hp and all pass.

Can i set the hpf in head unit to 60hz so that everything is taken care as in amp it is set to all pass.

Kindly help me out

Here are the details:

Amplifier: 2 channel fosgate amplifier

Setup: amplifier is connected to back speakers only. There is no subwoofer.

Right now i have set the amp to 30% of max value and crossover is set to all pass and hpf on head unit set to zero.

Tell me whether setting is the optimum setting or i have to change.

If the amplifier is on the rear speakers, then I would run it full range.

When you have the budget for it, I would invest in a 2-channel amplifier to power your front speakers, or sell your 2-channel and buy a powerful 4-channel amplifier. By doing that, it will allow you to hit higher volumes while keeping the signal clean. Plus you can cross over the fronts so they aren't trying to reproduce frequencies below their capabilities. Personally, I wouldn't buy anything that was under 100w RMS per channel.

I agree with JimAckley...a 125x 4 channel amp with 3 channel capabilities would suit you well..as far as with what you have now?.im not sure i would run any X-over.. due to the fact im assuming your rears are loaded from the trunk and the fronts the doors.. i tend to find the natural balance of the cars acoustics and make it work to my advantage instead of fighting the variable..resonance friend or foe?.lol.good luck.but still think of finding a better suited amp or amps.
