SDA 1 problems

I just recently upgraded my system going from a Marrantz 7.1 surround receiver to a Sunfire Cinema Grand and when I started to turn the volume up the tweets in my SDA 1's on both sides cut out. I was wondering if this is just a crossover problem (the caps being old and used) or if it is the tweets them self's. Any one have any feedback?

Sounds like you overloaded the drivers. Were you cranking it?

If that's it, they have protective circuits in them. They shut down automatically when pushed too far. Shut them down for a bit and then power everything back up, then see what happens.

I was turning up the volume and not too loud my 11TL's weren't cutting out but when I reach 0 on the Processer the tweets give out, not the drivers, they continue on. I just lose all the high's on the SDA 1's

sounds like you need to replace or remove and "jump" the poly's,,,if in doubt,,just replace them.good luck.

I know they have protective circuits the 11TL's will shut down in the same way if over loaded, you power down and they pop back on. The SDA's the tweets shut off not the drivers, you power down, the tweets pop back on. But the TL's far out last the SDA's and I know that shouldn't be. As far as remove and "jump" the poly's you lost me (lol, The surrounds are in immaculate condition.)

your polyswitches appear to be wearing out,, you can replace them,,or remove them and replace with a jumper wire,,or use a .5 ohm resistor in place of the poly, when you jump/or/resistor,,remember,,you no longer have tweeter protection,, so careful with that volume,,,Eugene.

I agree with george daniel that it sounds like your polyswitches have worn and are weak.

I would not suggest jumping the poly's as you like to crank it up a bit and if that receiver clips you will blow up those tweeters. I would replace the poly's with new ones. I believe Polk has them and will send them free for members of the forum. I may be wrong on that but either case they are cheap and worth the protection they alot.

Thank you much on the info, I'll be contacting Polk to see if I can get them. No one seemed to respond on the price of the SDA 2.3's for $800.00 though :)

Polk no longer sells the poly's. You can get the spec info off the poly and go shopping for them at Parts Express or Mouser.
