Saw this NPR article recently and found it kind of creepy but interesting.

The article starts out with a warning of sorts.

    I am an odd combination of intrigued, interested, genuinly hopeful this can combine pest control with energy shortages........and yet effing disturbed all at the same time.

    Once we reach the Singularity, machines will not need to be powered by eating things. That presumption is ridiculous. However, as oshkigod mentioned above, this is a great form of pest control. Especially, if it can be tuned to specific insects; i.e. flys not spiders, for example.

    On the other hand, as tonyb alluded, if there is a 'bug' in the design it could eat you instead of a fly. :eek:

    Yeah, I can imagine one day wondering where the cat is, then hearing a huge belch from the coffee table. Can't even imagine a 2 year old would be stalked around the house. I know there's a SNL skit in there somewhere.
