AVS forum members did a ID subwoofer shootout. Interesting read for someone looking for a great sub in the $1000 range.

Hsu VTF-15H
CHT CS-18.1

    Interesting read.

As far as my "wife" is concerned, though, the title should be "Five SUBS no wife would ever want in a room!". lol

Subs of this size are beasts of the kind that belong in a man cave...or in the back of some boombox Rap-blasting vehicle. Not to say that all these subs wouldn't be great HT subs if you had a nice sized room in which the sub wouldn't look like a small refrigerator.

Of all, only the Epik is of more reasonable dimensions--and might get a pass since it reduces size by having opposing 15" drivers. (Still not small--but at least it doesn't look like a UPS delivery truck to your wife?).

    HA! I love it!

I went through it this morning, didn't do any of the videos, but a good read. Didn't help me any on my quest though as all of those blast my budget and space requirements out of the water.

I've been hoping someone would do another sub shootout like Craig did a couple of years ago. Happiness is not having to deal with WAF, I don't know how you guys deal with that.

It's a fun review. Those guys put in alot of effort though the numbers and graphs reflect the room not the subs. Their subjective comments are valuable and valueless depending on how you look at it. All of them are output monsters and all sound great. The Empire, the only sub I've heard, will still get you to reference level in the right room and lags behind the others.

There are professional reviews going on at AH that feature the Hsu, a higher powered Rythmik, SVS and we're still waiting for Funky Waves. Here's the links...

These reviews actually tell you what the subs are capable of, though there are quite a few Hsuies that are up in arms about measurements and/or perceived negative comments. There are much longer and hotter threads on AVS regarding these reviews.

The only thing better than that is a pair of Gothams. You won't be disappointed.

Why not take a look at Rythmik or Seaton Sound? They have very nice sealed offerings. SVS has their grand sealed line out as well, but I haven't heard them so I cannot really comment.

There was also a comparison over at AVS between the JLF113, Velodyne DD18, Paradigm Sub25, and the SVS PB13. It's a very nice read and to my surprise, the group said the Paradigm was the most musical! Of course you have to take it with a grain of salt.
