TV died...suggestions?

Have a Mitsubishi WS-65...something or other. Great 65" TV that lasted me about 9 years. The picture now has a white washed look on all inputs, so I suspect a gun has failed or is failing. To invest in a new gun (granted that's the problem) would be a waste of money since the other 2 are probably close behind in terms of failure.
I would like to stay in the 65" + range, but am totally clueless what is good/bad, etc. Not sure of budget yet, just curious what your thoughts are in terms of OEM's and current technology. NO interest in 3D. Just Blu-ray and deep blacks.
Thanks,
Jason

Unless you kept the TV in torch mode all its life I doubt the guns are the problem. If yopu could find a local Mits CRT guy it might not be as much as you think to repair but 12 years is about max on these.
In the 65" range check out the Mits DLP. Can be had for cheap and have a nice picture.
The 73" can be had for about $1600. Stay away from the 82"
If you want flat panal check out any of the panasonic plasmas in that size range.Speakers: SDA-1C (most all the goodies)

Even though you could care less about 3D, I think in the next release of TV's coming out, you may not have much of a choice.

If you get a picture of white I don't think your guns died. I'm thinking a video chip or a power supply problem.

This is strange. I'm starting to agree with disneyjoe7. So I disconnected cables, tried different inputs, etc...same deal. I then pushed the power button on the TV on and off and it came back to life. After a few minutes or so it would fade out to a washed look again. Then I'd power on and off, and it would come back. It was taking a while longer to power up to "picture on screen." Power supply then? I think I may contact a tech if it continues.THE SYSTEM

If it worked on by repowering it I think a chip is bad.

Get a new one.If you can't hear a difference, don't waste your money. -
Get a new one.
Agree, fixing that old one now will only lead to more fixes down the road, given it's age. Bite the bullet and go shopping. If you want to stay in the 65 inch area it may get expensive though. Plasma from Panny, Samsung may be the cheapest way to go.HT SYSTEM-

Thanks gents. I actually had a tech come out on Friday. Ended up being the 9 (I think) volt regulator. Had to order it from Mitsubishi and it should be done next week. When he was tinkering around he had me watch the screen and when he'd lightly tap on that component, the white washed screen would come and go. He said it would run under 2 bills to repair. That sound about right?

Time for a new tv. I had a Sony rear pro tv, and had a problem with image retention back in 2006. Would have been 400 bucks for each gun to be rebuilt. It was more cost efficient for me to get rid of the Sony, and buy a Mits WD-Y65 from Circuit City Christmas Eve of '06. Save your money and put it towards that 73 inch Mits Dmara mentioned. That is a crazy price for a huge screen.polk monitor 70's

Well, if you're going to save money, go ahead and push the TV as long as it will go. I'd get your learn on about replacements, though, so you know what you want if it fails again. New HDTVs will only get better and cheaper. So you're not really losing anything by waiting except enjoying a new set. -
Just replace it.. it's about time. IF you want big like that you're really looking at a projector or DLP from mitsubishi again.
More like if you want bigger than that. 60-65" plasma screens have great pictures and will take up far less room than the old TV. But then there's the cost...
If you want something really big like 80+", then you really have to look elsewhere.
