So I am moving my monitor 30's to the rears and wall mounting is not an option. my ear height is right around 3' when sitting on the couch maybe 3-4" higher.
For 5.1 would 36" stands put them high enough or should I go with 42",

These are the 36" stands

These are the 42" stands

Any other ideas for stands are appreciated. I have searched the forum for stands before. I know wall mounting is favored.

The stands should be at whatever height that places the tweeters at ear level, since they have the most limited directionality. So that 42" sound like they're too high.

But aren't rears supposed to have higher placement than the fronts so tweeters should be at least 12" above ears? That is what I have read surfing the forums

Why don't you stack milk crates or something at 36" for one movie and 42" for the same movie (or another) and pick whatever sounds best to you.

I've always used the tweeter-at-ear-level rule for my fronts and center, however I've always had slightly better results with the surrounds higher than ear level. Again, that was just my personal preference.

Yeah I might have to give that a try, I was hoping to get stands before I pick up my fronts on Saturday.

Better to experiment with things before just settling with something. You'll always kick yourself later wondering 'what if'...

I'd like to take that budget and just buy some really good speakers every 6-8 months. What if though........
