Has eBay comepletely gone to hell?

I swear, there are no decent sellers left on ebay. I bought a laptop screen with a 1 year warranty and a guarantee of no dead pixels. It had two dead pixels, so I was told to return it for a replacement. I asked if there was any way a new one could be shipped before I gave them the old one. They said ok. Then, they sent another email saying no, but would ship as soon as a tracking number arrived (all this in terrible english, I might add). I immediately shipped the screen and gave them the tracking info. I got no response for days, then the package arrived. So I told them it arrived, wheres my replacement? 3 days later they get back to me saying "sorry, we are out of stock, will you accept a refund?" I told them that they should have made me aware of this BEFORE I shipped my screen as I am now without a screen. I told them that I already purchased a new one and to send the refund immediately. 5 days later, no refund.

Anyway, I bought the new screen, different seller, and it has not arrived and it's past the date it was supposed to be here. I email them, they don't reply. I look at their ad and it says, "leaving negative feedback will void your warranty"... what has happened to ebay? years ago I never had issues, now it seems that every transaction ends poorly. I have 216 or so transactions, mostly buying, and this seems to be a trend. I've also noticed lately that many sellers have multiple ebay accounts, probably to help spread out poor feedback.

Funny I have over 300 transactions and have only had 1 bad one,and even that turned out on a positive note..

Even during christmas i bought something for my wife and it showed up with a small broken piece on it. I emailed the seller and he sent me a new one and made sure it was in my hands before christmas. the guy didn't even want the other one back so I glued it together and my wife has two of them..

I have no problems with ebay but I am very picky about who I buy from..

That alone would have kept me from buying from them..

Maybe it isn't so much of a trend about ebay in general, but a trend about my buyers. Now that I think of it, it seems to happen more with sellers that have TONS of feedback (like 50K+).

yeah, you're probably right. My problem is, I've only found this screen with the correct pin configuration on ebay. and i've bought from both of the only sellers that offer a no dead pixel guarantee. There are tons of sellers that say up to 5 dead pixels is OK... but that is insane.

EBAY translates to "Buyer Beware" in my book. I have over 500 successful buy/sell transactions, but most were nearly a decade ago, and none seem as shady as what's out there today.

Hopefully you can file a complaint with Ebay, or if you paid with PayPal, file a claim with them.

I haven't used ebay for about 5 years now. It has gone to hell, and that's not a place I care to vacation in.

Usually the ones with weird and stringent terms (leaving negative feedback, yadayada) are also the ones with significant price discount.

Same goes everywhere, you get what you pay for.

But the good thing about Ebay is that their feedback system lets you weed out the 'better' discount shops from the rest so you can make a (relatively) safe purchase and make the savings.

I usually only purchase "safe" items from ebay, movies, books etc....most electronic items are out of the question, although I did purchase a used cell phone from ebay after I dropped mine and it turned out to be better than what I expected.

I gave up on Ebay a couple of years ago. I bought 2 Christmas presents on there. Both needed to be sent back, and I ended up having to put a paypal claim on both transactions to get refunds. I had to scramble to have my dad a gift by Christmas....never again.

I'm ok with that; don't really miss it at all.

Ditto all the above. What really kills me is I've seen bidders in the past bid up an item far above what it's real value is. Local craigslists are much better plus you can touch it, play with it,make sure it's functional before paying for it.

Another good reason to just buy from fellow CP members here who have good feedback and are known to go above and beyond to complete a smooth transaction. I do use Ebay ,but as Leroy1 has mentioned, finding someone local to buy from eliminates a lot of the problems with shipping etc... CL can be risky though, a lot of sellers want to meet in a public place to do the transaction, unfortunately, this doesn't give anyone a chance to see or hear if there's a problem, especially with electronics.

During the last two years I've been buying a lot of stuff on eBay and did not experience any problem. Of course I always went for sellers that got plenty and great ratings. I even bought stuff being shipped all the way from China and England.

eBAY is for buying trinkets and collectibles, not (IMNSHO) replacement parts in lieu of buying from a distributor or manufacturer. There's a difference between cost and value - the lowest cost is not always the best value.

I suspect that the consumer culture will, eventually, re-learn this simple truism.

For some stuff, you DON"T get a choice. And my experiences with
the real guys often isn't much better as of late. Repairing laptops
Vs. buying new is not making much $$$ sense lately. I can do
Dells only because there's lot of places for cheap parts locally. Anything
    else, forget it.

WOW. By doing some research, I found that the second individual I bought from is actually the same person as the first one. This seller has tons of ebay accounts and operates papatek.com and hootoo.com.

How can this be allowed on ebay?
