Buy a sub or better satellite speakers?
Howdy everyone, was just looking for some opinions on what to do next with my setup. I've had my polk setup for a little over a month and I'm fairly new to all this. Thanks in advance for any and all suggestions/information and I apologize for any ignorance on my part.
I use my system for everything but my only true concern is for music. I have a pair of Monitor70s hooked up to a Yamaha RX-V367 (100Wx5) and I have a couple random bookshelf speakers from a previous generic system hooked up as satellite speakers.
My room is about 15x20, current volume capabilities are more than adequate - Let it be noted that I live in the country and disturbing the neighbors is of no concern here. I've got what I'd consider good bass at the moment (shakes the room in songs with decent bass lines) but I think I'd like a little more depth to it. On the other hand, perhaps the bigger issue is a lack of distortion and maybe I should just keep playing with the EQ.
Anyhow, I'm debating between getting a polk sub or getting a couple more polk speakers to use as satellites. Or.... some other option that I haven't even considered. What say you?

WELCOME TO CLUB POLK!
Get yourself a CS2 Polk center and a SUB (maybe the PSW505 POLK) probably cost you 300 and some change on sale. You can keep the other speakers you have for now. You only need to match the M70s with the CS2 upfront. That will make a big difference on films because the center carries about 50 percent of the soundtrack info. And that Yamaha is not powerful enough to yield a lot more bass from the M70s. And frankly, they only go down to 40 hz on a GOOD DAY! With the PSW505 you'll be heading south to a 28hz low! And relieve your AVR of having to push the lows on the M70s, free it up to use more of its power for the mids and highs!
Good Luck.

Thanks for the suggestion, much appreciated. Any other ideas out there or should I start looking for deals on a CS2 and a 505? Also, would there be much worth to getting a 110 instead of a 505 or is the 505 substantially better? Probably looking at ~$80 difference based on the prices I currently see.Living Room - AKA The Temple of Sound

Quick question. What do you mean by lack of distortion??
Newegg.com has the Polk Audio PSW505 for $229 and free shipping. I would jump on that. I just ordered the monitor 70's and the monitor 40's. Once i recover from all the spending lately the PSW505 will be my next purchase! I hear nothing but good about it.Living Room

I am just a newbie myself and trying as we speak to get all my stuff in and hooked up. I bought the polk cs2 from polkaudio ebay refurbished store link follows and it came in today, looks great. It being refurbished by Polk you get a 2 yr warranty instead of 5 yr for new. Also Newegg has the Polk PSW505 for $229.00 + free shipping, I think a great price for this Sub.

Really liking the input guys but damn, you're all horrible influences =/ Here I felt bad about buying a receiver and my monitor70s, and now you're tempting me to dump another $400 into the mix...oh the temptations....oh how I love my music... Well, time to read up on hooking up a sub and buying some more wireLiving Room - AKA The Temple of Sound

Just wait, you'll end up with amps, interconnects, power conditioners, speaker cables etc. I found this place a few months ago because I had a pair of rt800's I got on craigslist and just needed to know what to cross them over at... -
Hahaha. As a young gentleman with no wife or children to be paycheck vampires, and jobs/classes that zap pretty much all of my free time for other hobbies... I see a bunch of stuff I don't "need" in my living room's future. For instance, I should probably buy a new TV and a new entertainment center along with this sub because I 'slightly broke' my current TV with my monitor70s. Apparently, much like a baby, my flat screen does not appreciate being violently shaken every day.Living Room - AKA The Temple of Sound

Nice. I'm 24 and all I have to do is buy the wife a new purse or something every now and then and I can buy whatever I want, pretty good system haha.

Get a vasectomy. Do it now. Think of it as speaker insurance...not only will children leach money away from speaker funds, they are also liable to break the ones you do buy.Living Room - AKA The Temple of Sound
