Always liked Legacy, only personally owned the Classics. They sure like to have a lot going on. What are those, five-ways? ;)

I love the Legacy Whisper XD. I heard the Whisper and the Classic on several occasions. Both were impressive, but the Whisper XD is just heavenly. Its open baffle construction with big bass slam is right up m alley. Awesome awesome speakers. I will own a pair some day.

Trey, are those the speakers Tyler Acoustics had on trade?

You and me both Mike. But for now, I'm pretty happy with the Focus. Those Whisper HD's are on the short list of speakers to own before I die.

Trey, where are those puppies ? Your place ?

These were the speakers Ty had on trade...

Long story - the details are not public. Either way I am excited to hear these.

I may also have the Taylo Reference II system coming at the same time from Ty...

    This should be interesting!

Cool, never was able to get an ear on the empires. Wonder where they fall in Legacy's line up ? Or are those replacements for the Sig 3's ?

Wait, are those the older model Empires that were discontinued ? For a second I thought they came out with a new model.

Too bad you couldn't have demo'd them and let us know!
    Have fun!

I think this is where this post should be?

Another turning point in my quest . . .

I'm looking at Legacy Empires "studio" all black version (no real wood). 10 yr old and just out of warranty (gotta luv a company that provides 10 yr warranty!)

Claims to be lightly used, speaks look very good, the seller seems legit . . claims MSRP 7500 selling for 3K . . . your thoughts? price includes matching center channel , do not know the model # of center channel

IS THERE ANYTHING IN PARTICULAR THAT I SHOULD LOOK FOR / CHECK FOR ? ? i.e. problem areas?

    thanks in advance,

as always . . be well

Of course I didn't get any feedback on the Empires . . . Less than a dozen were ever made!!!

I called Legacy today and spoke to Doug Brown? (very nice guy and informative) He sez only Six or 8 pairs were ever made and that they were/are great speakers. Probably true . . . But replacement part will be an issue in the furure. Obviously not a big seller, but they sure Do Sound Very Good

Info on speaks can be found here: http://www.legacyaudio.com/images/uploads/manuals/discontinued/empire.pdf

ANY and ALL thoughts are much appreciated . .

    Thanks!

These seem a tad more bad ****.....

    http://chicago.craigslist.org/nwc/ele/3071489864.html

Being a focus 20/20 owner for many years now, my Legacy's are going nowhere for as long as they'll have me. Which incidently you could easily find a pair now in the 3 g range. Some day I'll snag the HD version, but still aim to keep the older one.

Well, Legacy speakers may look bad ****, but they perform along with those looks. From their entry level Classics all the way to the Whispers, if you can find a good used pair grab'em. You'll definately be in the realm of good sound. The only bad thing is, you keep lusting over the next model up. Whisper HD's have to be on anyones list to audition.....and they even come to your house to set them up for you.
My other favorite speaker maker is PBN/Montana, the Was or the Kas had me at hello. I'm a big speaker kinda guy, if you haven't figured that out yet.

Tony, given your Legacy experience. . . What would you think about purchasing the Empires knowing that ONLY 6-8 pairs were ever produced. When the inevitable break-down occurs, parts will be scarce, to say the least??? THAT'S my big concern . . .

    Your thoughts . . .TY

    G

btw, I'm pretty sure I can get the price south of his 3K offering . . perhaps 2.4K

Personally, I'd shy away from rare models of any speaker for that very reason, availability of parts. I'd much rather get a better produced model, even a demo from a dealer that would still have a warranty. I paid 4 g's for my Focus 20/20's as a demo delivered too and they were only sitting on the dealer showroom floor for 6 months. Thats almost half price, with a warranty, and plenty of parts available. While I have no doubt the Empires sound good, 3 g's seems risky in my book.

Your best bet, if your dead set on it, is to call up Legacy and ask about them and if any parts are interchangeable with current models. You'll get a better idea of the risk involved. 3 grand is nothing to sneeze at, and you want to keep speakers awhile that cost that kind off coin. Going on 6 years with mine and never a hiccup. A good power amp makes these Legacy speakers realy shine. I'd prefer you look at a used focus 20/20 for the 3 grand. It's probably a better speaker than the Empires and still has parts available. They will bring a smile to your face no matter what you throw at them. Good luck to you.

Hmmm man Empires are nice and I always wanted to hear a pair. Legacy is some good stuff and really enjoyed the sound when I heard it.

I honestly have never heard of a user having any issues with a Legacy speaker or having to replace something. That said seeing it is older you might have issues but I guess I would call and ask what is the cost for replacement drivers and if they know if/when they would be gone etc. I guess as long as its nothing obsure it should be easy to locate but seeing its not something they currently have in production might be a little harder.

Some companies (like Wilson) keep a lot on hand of their older models so they can make sure they can service them in the future if the need arises. This is not a typical situation I know but I would even ask them if they do have anything for this speaker and if so what you could purchase the parts for.
