Which Sub?

I have Monitor 60's in the front CS1 for center and Monitor 30's for rears. Using a receiver my buddy gave me (at work forgot the model). Will update with model when at home.

I use my sound system almost every second I am at home. I have it hooked up to my PC via TOSLINK and use it for gaming/movies ALOT. The monitor 60's at first helped with the bass but now that I am playing Battlefield Bad Company 2 and watching alot of movies want more bass.

My budget is under $200 (hoping 150). Looking at 3 different models

Polk Audio PSW Series PSW10 Black 10-inch
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16882290034

Polk Audio PSW Series PSW110 Black High Performance Powered Subwoofer
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16882290036

And if I save my penny's and stop eatting out:
Polk Audio PSW Series PSW505 12" Powered Subwoofer Each
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16882290130

Normally the first can be had on sale for $80. But I do not want to buy a sub that will not match well with my current speakers. The room I have this in is odd shaped at about 15'x12.5'

Have some discipline and save your pennies. A better sub will be worth it.

Save your pennies and get the 505, or find a used sub.

A cheap sub is easily identified after you have heard a decent one. Eat at home. Its healthier anyways.

What a great place! See, we care about your audio, your smart financial decisions, and your health.

I was leaning towards the 12". The thing that worried me is my friend that installs home audio in mansions etc telling me that a better 10" would normally sound better then a mid range 12". He was also trying to steer me away from Polk for Klipsch.

Being the good friend he is... he says all 3 I linked are garage and not worth buying. But he has not gave me any ideas either.

Edit: wow fast reponses here! Yeah eatting at home is better for me. My new GF loves to eat out once a week tho (grr).

Well, the more you step up in the line, the more you get. Many here seem to think the 505 is excellent for the $$. Nothing else at that price level is going to be significantly better, if any better at all.

To my knowledge my friend did not hear the sub. He is the type that is a brand fanboy. He just keeps saying his Klipsch sound better and are better sounding overall. When I was at his house last they sounded harsh.

Ask your buddy if he will continue to buy Klipsch now that Audiovox owns them. That'll shut his trap pretty quick. lol

I've heard a lot of good things about the 505's. I will probably be adding one myself in the near future. It's real easy to recommend things when you're not footing the bill. Congrats, and good luck!

I was going to get the PSW110 but when I heard the Pro400 I was sold it offers much tighter base and better sound control but it is almost double the price. Point is the smaller tighter woofer combined with better movement of air made for deeper tighter bass then a big loose woofer would. I know there are better brands for what I paid but my options were very limited (I am not in the US). Any how everyone seems to love the PSW 505 in all the threads (it was not an option where I am) so get it and enjoy.

Another quick question. Is my Integra dtr 5.2 "good" enough for the my planned setup? I got it free. Hoping to get one with HDMI soon.

I planned on getting ONKYO TX-SR608

Go with one that has pre-outs if you ever do upgrade. That is one of the biggest mistakes I made when I bought mine. It was something I never would have thought about before.
I don't know... after buying the 608 I got all worried about the pre-out thing, but after getting my system tuned I can't see a need for more power. I have a 18x24 room and sit 16' from the center. The HT is more than loud enough (with room for more volume) for 99% of the movies and music we listen to.

Yeah that's fine but throwing money at a feature someone may never use seems like a waste. The 708 and the 608 have almost identical power ratings but it's price is another $220. If I'm on a budget putting that toward a sub would be money well spent.

But will the 608 be a pretty big sound quality upgrade over my current DRS 5.2?

Thats a difficult question just by looking a power ratings. Feature wise the 608 would be worth the upgrade.
