Difference Between Monitor 50 and R50 Floorstanding Speakers?

I am selling off some computer components that I no longer need in order to finance my new sound system.

Someone offered me a trade of 2x Polk R50 Floorstanding Speakers for my XFX HD Radeon 6870. (It's an AMD graphics card for anyone unaware and I'm asking $200 for it.)

I don't know much about the R50's, however. It's a decent deal if they're in great shape since he will be paying for shipping but how good are those speakers? I'm familiar with the Monitor 50's, but I could buy them brand new for $184 Shipped from NewEgg. The R50's, though, are around $360-$400 for a new pair at the cheapest I have seen them.

Can you guys give me some opinions on the R50's and whether or not they're worth $200? Thanks!

I found em at fry's brand new for $99 each, so i'd say they're worth exactly $200:wink:. http://www.frys.com/product/4005092

    Onkyo TX-SR308
    Samsung 46" LED-LCD
    Samsung BD-C5500 (Don't Recommend)

Alright, Thanks Guys. I will definitely pass, then.

For some reason, when I searched google shopping and amazon, the cheapest I found them for new was $180 apiece. I checked Fry's though and they are indeed $99 new which means it's not worth it.

    Thanks again!

It's likely because the R50's are much older. Both the monitor and R series are discontinued but the monitors pop up everywhere. I've owned both of these speakers (still have the R50's) and they sounded nearly identical. The R50s had a better bottom end but lacked greatly in the highs where the Monitors were more balanced out.

I paid $100 for the pair of R50s in near perfect shape from craigslist 2 years ago and consistently see them for about $150 a pair.
