Simply fantastic. Easily as good as the original.
If...
Ron dislikes a film = go out and buy it.
Ron loves a film = don't even rent.

Just watched this last night and Im with ya, this is a freaking great movie!
At first I was thinking,"oh God this is going to be some stupid artsy film." Not even close. Very cool story and direction. The little girl vamp is cool as any Twilight bloodsucker. Absolutely loved the ending. Not a whole lot of action but still enough to be cool for vampire stuff. The story itself is engrossing and keeps you interested. The action and vampire stuff is just extra coolness.
If youre a fan of vampire movies (real ones and not love stories for 13 year old girls) and want to see one with a unique and definitely cool twist, this is easily worth a rent. Ill probably sneak out and buy it.

Isn't this basically almost shot for shot the same as the original? I haven't seen it yet, but that's what I've heard.

I got tired of waiting and bought this BD for $13.00. Yes, it's nearly shot for shot and very well done. I preferred the original, but this one doesn't dissappoint. A few scenes didn't make it, a couple changes, but the dialog and tone are nearly identical (between the kids). The money shot scene didn't make an appearance, which is a shame, but that probably couldn't get past American outcry.
For those that haven't seen LTROI...remember when she tells the boy, "I'm not a girl". The scene where she comes out of the shower in the original flashes a view of her crotch which is a scared flap of skin. It's not mentioned in either movie, but this pays homage to the book which explains that Eli/Abby is a 200yr old castrati. Eli, the Swedish version, is played by a much more androgynous young lady and this scene is very effective

Saw the movie. Loved it, but in the same breath was disturbed by it. Was one of the darker films I have watched in a long time.@ Ron Temple, when she does say I am not a girl, I did take it in both contexts actually. I have never seen the original film nor heard of it actually so the way she said it was very effective and did make me wonder whether or not she was male or female.

Spoiler tags don't work on this forum: Yes, having seen LTROI twice and LMI once, you're supposed to wonder...does she mean, "I'm a vampire" or "I'm really not a girl. In the Swedish version, you get verification, but no further explanation. I found out by reading about the film and the book it's based on. If you can believe it, the book is much darker and more violent/depraved than either film. You're left with the impression (explicitly in the American versioin) in both films, that her adult helper had been with her as a child and that she recruited him in much the same way as she did Oskar/Evan. Actually, he was a child molester who preferred boys and his storyline was dropped from the films. He actually half changed to a vamp and ran amoc for awhile. The films are different and work very well as they are. Part of the enjoyment is wondering is she sincere in her relationship with the boy or just recruiting her next human helper. She's really not that competent a vampire ./Spoiler

Some differences from the original but that's to be expected. Very good movie/remake. "Hit Girl" makes a very good vamp."The secret of happiness is freedom. The secret of freedom is courage." Thucydides

Finally got around to seeing this. Loved it. I'm always pleasantly surprised when I agree with Ron-P on a movieIf you will it, dude, it is no dream.

Wow. I'm a little late to this one as well. Absolutely fantastic movie. It carried with it a certain cinematic mood that I don't think I've ever quite experienced. Almost a cross between "ominous" and "nostalgic"... if that makes sense.
Was anyone else blown away by some of the camera shots? Particularly of the playground? Whoever was responsible obviously has a keen eye.I never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. Now, for some of you it doesn't matter. You were born rich and you're going to stay rich. But here's my advice to the rest of you: Take dead aim on the rich boys. Get them in the crosshairs and take them down. Just remember, they can buy anything but they can't buy backbone. Don't let them forget it. Thank you.Herman Blume - Rushmore -
Yup, whoever was the DP on this movie deserves a lot of praise. If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

I've heard this is a good one. being the cheapskate that i am, I'm still waiting to see if BB will drop the BD price down to $7.99.
