What receiver to get from Newegg

Finally.
I made the mistake of not listening before and I hope all y'all / yooz guys / you'se guys and gals can forgive me.
I got a second lease on receiver ( Sony agreed to buy back and am shipping out by Tuesday for full buy back )

So.....
I do want to spend less than 1k of course.
I seemed to get good product and pricing from Newegg.
I was thinking Denon or Onkyo, and around 800 max.

Is there a particular recommendation I should get ?

See my sig for the speakers I have.
I would like to Bi-Amp as I can hear more depth, at least with the Sony, I noticed that. Too, on higher volumes, they also sounded louder and with more breadth Bi-amped.
While a better receiver might not need that, that is my intention setting out, especially with room placement and size.

My room is 12 x 28

Kind of leaning towards a 7.2 as I am not happy with PSW10's limitations (having to get up and adjust so as to not hear vibrating if set too high) and will eventually (or now) get a big un or additional PSW10 and have them set to help one another.

Thanks.

I do feel lucky that Sony saw the issue. (110x7 never really put that out/ infact new mdel 1010 is adverised at 110wx110w and is nearly identical/so bogus wattage per channel claim that Sony didn't actually, but seemingly nonchalantly recognized/not bashing Sony as I love their TV's/CD/Blu-ray/Puters and then some.) They just need to stay out of the Audiophile and Audiophile rookie markets :>0

I guess too, any other online retailer recommendations. I was steering towards the Onkyo 708 or 808, but Newegg may be selling off those permanently as well. The main reason I asked, was mainly if there was something new and latest and greatest out there, receiver wise.

Amazon has the Pioneer SC-35 $1048+. I know it's >$1k, but you will be getting an absolutely GREAT rcvr.

What he said - SC-35, or maybe this one:

I would call the reputable online dealers for the best price...ABT, Electronics Expo, Newegg, 6th ave electronics.

+1 - great receiver.. I've frequently lamented spending a couple hundred dollars less on something i wanted, but never regreted spending an extra couple...

I'm sure there is a Magnolia BB right up the street in Charlotte, that you could listen to a few rcvrs at. IIRC, they carry Denon, Pioneer, and Yamaha's?
If they don't have everything you're interested in, then go to the mfg. website, for a independent retailer in Charlotte.

If the top priority is HT. Then Pioneer, any model with pre-outs and anything from and Onkyo 708 up!

If 'music' is also important then Marantz, Harman Kardon, and Denon in that order of preference. These are 'warmer' more musical in their presentation than the HT power houses and great feature sets of Pioneer and Onkyo (which I would call the top tier in HT big box names?).

But I'd listen to some. I can tell you that I've run M70s and TSI-300s off an 1200 dollar Denon and they were very pleasing musically. But power wise..the Onkyo 60X series almost put out as much juice as the slightly more powerful Denon (20 watts/channel greater)?

    Good Luck

I'd say, Pioneer SC-whatever (ICE amps) or Onkyo 808 and up. :) Marantz would definitely be more musical, but more money (still drooling over 8003 processor...).

You don't need to spend that much on an AVR, unless you want to. There are some excellent deals out there for <$500, and you could add a decent 5-channel "pre-owned" amp for about that and have an equal or better result, IMO. That's what I did and I've been very pleased. I got a refurb HK 254 about a year ago for <$250 (it looked like new to me), and it has all that I need - 7.1 Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio, and of course, the necessary pre-outs. I've paid much more than that for AVRs and was never more satisfied. My amp provides most of the power (the HK drives the back surrounds). If I ever want/need to upgrade/replace the AVR, I'm sure the amp will last me quite a long time, and I'm not going to be out a whole lot of $$. I'd go the same route again.

That said, if you're bent on putting it all into an AVR, I vote for either HK's top current model AVR 3600, or a Pioneer SC model.

Personally, I'll never touch HK AVR again. Had one three years ago. Bought new with all bells and whistles. The damn thing died (main processor board) a few months after the warranty expired. HK was kind enough to offer me free shipping on that brick back to them. The repair cost was more than that receiver was worth at the time. HK quality went down big time in the last 10 years or so. I'd stick with Marantz, Pioneer SC and Onkyo.

I like the way the Onkyo 808 seems, the way the Marantz would seemingly sound, but am leaning towards Pioneer for durability, experience from the cheapie's I bought and their in-destructiveness. I cannot see on the Pioneer website, does the VSX 33 or SC35 have multiple amps like the Marantz SR6005 ? Onkyo, I just don't know well enough, durability wise or multiple amp wise, but the Marantz, seems the nicest choice, I would just hope for durability.
    Tough choices.
Money is ok, going slightly above, but would not want to buy another for some time.
I would hope for 8 - 10 years of a good service as the Pioneer cheapies have given (and still have around one of 'em), gave the others away, one relationship at a time when I was younger, ha.

Wife says I have to wait for check from Sony :>( So, 4 weeks on my old Sony backup from the office, the 5.1...But, I am leaning towards the Marantz SR6005 for 649.99 and a 2 year warranty from Accessories for less, refurbished model I believe, plus an extended 5 year warranty for 79.99 for piece of mind. That will put me at 730.....Thoughts ? Successful buyers from this company out there ?
Thanks everyone, I still have time to review your thoughts and opinions and am not totally 100% yet, but a strong lean towards the SR6005.

I know we're just talking personal experiences here, but there's someone with a story like that for every mainstream brand. I don't think there's any particular brand that seems to have a disproportionate number of problems among those mentioned the most on this forum.

I'm not an extended warranty type of guy. Never bought one, never will. Maybe at $10 I would. I'm convinced that if I took the $$ that one would cost each time I purchased new electronics and banked it, I'd have more than enough to cover the extremely low number of failures I've ever experienced. If, however, you need it for peace of mind... go for it.

Of course, but it's really the way I was treated. I had to send in broken gear to various manufacturers, including "lowly" JVC, but I never had such horrible customer service, like I experienced with HK.

    I have ordered my Marantz.

    Thanks everyone !

I bought from Accessories For Less

599.99 for the unit with a 1 yr warranty, and added a 3 year (really a 2 yr) warranty for 43.99 for a total of 661.69.

That, and a refund en route from Sony for 379.99 coming in 4 weeks

Note, the wife conditioning and allowance to order a new stereo after a mere .5 hr of watching the TV with no stereo hooked in 480 glory.

Ahhh, the life of having a good wife to let us buy our toys...

Marantz may be a good name, but don't go for a refurb model.
I have a refurb laptop that is just fine, so maybe I just got a lemon.
But really, I don't think they tested it for any length of time, or maybe tested it in a completely different environment, who knows.
I got it, unpacked it, hooked it.
During the first two hours, it randomly just shut down (2x), no error messages.
On hour 2.5, it just shut down.
In the troubleshooting manual, I checked, speakers hooked, no wires shorted and no speaker issues.
By the blinking (once every .5 seconds), it is a failed unit amplifier circuit.
I clicked the return authorization and filled that out.

Guess I didn't need that extended warranty after all.
A partial day warranty was all that was needed.

Yes, now I am down to 3 choices, the Onkyo 808, the Pioneer VSX 33 or SC35. Tough call, because I heard so much good about the Onkyo, yet my history with Pioneer proves their indestructiveness, at least in my past. While my old VSX-406 is even a far cry from the junk STR-DN1000 I had, it still puts out a respectable for its time sound through my living room set up. That has me strong leaning towards the Pioneer models. I just wished I could see a transformer break down of the two Pioneers. I know the Onkyo is a good one,, but how durable ? I am now leary of unknown to my household name brands and for good reason. I know my Polk's aren't at fault, as my Pioneer HT circa 1997 is bailing me out right now. On a good note, I am meeting my uncle with no money down to get his Sansui G33000 today in Concord for dining room duty, and maybe more, depending on its condition and capabilities.
