I'm not sure how many "pickers" there are on CP but I'd wager that a few of you check out the local thrifts stores for records.

What's that album that always seems to be in there?

Simon and Garfunkel's Greatest Hits?

Funny Girl?

Kenny Rodgers and Dolly Parton's Christmas album?

Personally I judge the potential of any bin by how soon I turn up Neil Diamond-Hot August Night.
Sounds good to me...

Is it a good sign, or a bad sign if it's in the first 10 albums?

    Most frequent single LP is:

But as far as "artist", that'd be Tennesee Ernie Ford...He put out like 40 LP's. Ah, I can hear him now.

Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.
    Thanks

I always find lots of Mantovani Orchestra and Enoch Light Orchestra. Usually a Chicago lp or two and some John Denvers.

I'm surprised that location doesn't have more of an effect on finds.

I guess I'm doomed to find the full Streisand discography no matter what state of the union I'm in....

Hey Rev Hayes- I'm also in Chapel Hill- where do you do your picking? I like CD Alley for new stuff, and Nice Price Books for used. But, NPB has started getting old....I think I've bought what I will there, and now it's a struggle. The owner is great though- always cuts a good deal.

I have to agree with the Bing Crosby X-mas album. I feel like I see it all the time....but maybe its just a recency effect since we just passed the season.

I can't say that I've gone out of my way to notice what I don't buy. But I do remember seeing that White Christmas album by Bing C. (listed by Tour2ma) more than once.

Christmas albums in general are quite popular. My recent pick-ups though:
Al Stewart--Year of the Cat, Elton John's--Greatest Hits, and The Hits of Benny Goodman (all of which have little surface 'damage'?).

My collection has grown exponentially thanks to the three Goodwills here in town, but lately timing is EVERYTHING!

I grabbed a pristine copy of the Beatle's "Let it Be" a few months ago on the original Apple RED lable!

Back when I was a butcher for Weaver St. I would walk to the PTA everyday after work. I used to love bumping into Denis from the Skylight Exchange. (also a good shop) He would buy records at the PTA to resell at his store. If he was there I knew to just turn around and leave.

These days I mostly buy new from CD ally or the new place in Carrboro (I cant remember the name).
    Sounds good to me...
