Looking for a meaty 7-ch amplifier for my HT. I'd like 200-300w RMS per channel at 4Ω

I'd also go for a 5-ch and 2-ch together. I'm just trying to bring the HT up to speed.

I suppose I can budget out 1500. I don't want a crappy amp, but I don't an epic 7x800w amplifier that needs dual 220v lines etc, etc. I figure what ever it takes to get around 250w @ 4Ω, give or take a bit, would be perfect. It's not so much that I plan on cranking it to a level of needing a ton of power (this is going to be used in a bedroom), but one of the lessons I learned from my car audio ventures is that it's better to have plenty of headroom for clean amplification than to be lacking and running at full throttle all the time.

...plus it will make mantis think I'm less of a moron

You might want to check out the outlaw amps. I think they make a seven channel x 300 @ 4 ohm amp

Whatever you do, get something soon! I was going to suggest going with a 5-channel amp and letting your AVR run two of the surrounds, but DANG!, that's a puny AVR to be running LSis on its own.

EDIT: OK, reading through the other threads here... you seem to already know that! Carry on!

I'm grabbing Geppy's 985 first, so I have my 2-ch system settled for a bit, then I'm gonna move some gear around and pick up the 7-ch. I'm already talking with a few local people who have 7-ch amps to do some listening tests, etc.

The funny part, is my Yamaha actually doesn't do a horrible job of powering the LSis. Hell no it's not ideal, but I've only sent it into protection once. I set it to the 6Ω mode so it'll match up half decently with them. It's rare that I ever need to turn it up, since this whole system is in nothing but a bedroom.

    Just 5, crossed @ 80. I let the LSi25s' 10s handle from 80-down, and my psw1000 from 50-down.

So why are you interested in a 7-channel amp? Bi-amping the mains??

25s are already bi-amped, so to speak. I'm actually going to be adding my LSi7s as back surrounds.

When I do that, I'll probably pick up some 9s for the 2-ch rig, or maybe some 15s. Who knows.

Agh I JUST sold an Integra Research amp mad by BAT that would have been perfect. Unfortunately, Fedex destroyed the package and i'm still waiting to hear about it, it was severely damaged :(.

Can definitely recommend this amp though if you come across one, RDA7

Yeah shipping companies rock. I saw the way UPS demolished some boxes that the new MicroPRO subwoofers were shipped in when they came out. I was shocked. debussyj shipped me my LSiC and LSiFXs in boxes that were like 3x larger than the speakers themselves with more of that air-cushion stuff inside than I've ever seen. I had to move the front seats in my Yukon up to fit the box inside (my W15GTi's keep me from putting anything large in the back).

    Hi Jim,

Here's my 7 channel solution. Just listed it for sale yesterday:

XPA-5 purchased Nov '08. Not a scratch on it. Took it out of the box and put it in my rack. Now back in the box. $750 shipped in the CONUS.

UPA-2 purchased Jan '09. Same story, not a scratch on it. $300 shipped in CONUS.

Both have given me exceptional service and I never thought I would sell them. I upgraded to a 7 channel 200wpc ATI amp that I found locally at a good price. Gives me a smaller footprint and room for other (2 channel) gear in my rack.

I have both original double-boxes, manuals, cords, even the silica gel packs. Both amps were installed on a dedicated circuit and fed by line-conditioners - they never saw bad power. Both installed in my dedicated home theater, no pets, smokers, etc.

5 year warranties transfer from Emo, of course. I have the original packing lists and will contact Emo to transfer the warranties to the new owner.

Check out my feedback on eBay. My ID is rtinatl. Over ten years as a member, never a negative, 235 transactions, all 100% positives.

Discount for local pickup, of course.

I've gotten lot of inquiries on the XPA-5 and a couple on the UPA-2. It's also listed on the Emo lounge site.

Never thought I would sell them, but got a deal on an ATI 2007 locally, and couldn't say no.

    Regards,

    Randal
