Rotel, B&K, Parasound, etc. Take a look at the latest software upgrade for the Anthem AVM-20! I performed the upgrade this A.M. and finally had a few minutes to look at the new OSD set up options. These are in addition to the countless other options that the AVM-20 already has! The following is from the Upgraded Anthem AVM-20 thread at HTF. I'm going to have a blast with all of these options/tweeks, though it may take a while to figure each one out!:D :D:D

• Auto-Digital Input Sensing by Source
Goes to digital input first, if no signal is present then automatically switches to analog input.
• Multiple Component-Input Assignment
Component inputs can be assigned to any source, including multiple sources.
• Multiple Digital-Input Assignment
Digital inputs (RCA, TOS, AES/EBU) can be assigned to any source, including multiple sources.
• 6-Ch Surround/Rear Reverse Output Option
• Duplicate Surround/Rear Output Option
• Digital Output Dithered whenever A to D is set to 16 bit.
Setup Menu Additions and Changes
• Separate Cinema and Music Speaker Configurations, assignable to each source.
• Auto-LFE Option determines Cinema/Music speaker configuration based on presence of LFE.
• Room Resonance Filter to remove primary in-room bass standing-wave.
• LFE Crossover Bypass recovers LFE information above subwoofer crossover setting.
• Source Presets allow user definable mode presets for each source.
• Source Setup defines operation parameters in one submenu for each source.
• Adjustable Mute Level allows different mute level settings or silent.
Operational Changes
• FM and AM Preset Banks only scan through their respective presets. ---
• Stereo / High Blend / Mono setting is memorized individually to each FM preset.
• Unused FM/AM Presets are skipped when tuned to 87.5(FM) and 530(AM).
• Individual Speaker Levels are memorized by Mode.
• Super Subwoofer modified so LFE goes to subwoofer only.
• Dynamics Reset to Normal whenever Main Power is turned Off/On.
• PLII-Movie:Auto/Off allows ProLogic II-Movie to be automatically engaged or overridden
for Dolby Digital-2.0 program material that contains the ProLogic flag.
• Direct Access Codes for modes, adjustments, and tuner banks 6.9 Appendix A
• Audio Group Delay direct access allows for visual audio delay alignment.
• Factory Default 2-Ch Mode set to AnthemLogic-Cinema for all video sources (plus AUX) and
AnthemLogic-Music for all audio sources.
• Remote Control Volume Speed increased for more responsive operation. ---
• Dashes in Hour Column of timers menu allows a specific timer to be skipped.
• Bit Rate / Sample Rate Status Indicator (in status cycle). Displays PCM, Dolby Digital and 5.10
DTS sample rates as applicable.
Custom Installation
• Fixed Output Option for Z2 and Z3
• New v2.1 Serial Command List (available on Custom section of website) includes many
additional new commands relevant to mode preset/selection.
• Front Panel Buttons Lockout (for most buttons) enabled through serial command. Serial Command List
• Serial Feedback for serial discrete volume command. Serial Command List
• TATU, TATD, TFTU, TFTD serial commands to allow FM/AM tuning up/down without Serial Command List
addressing a specific frequency.

Wow. Frank that is impressive (and I thought Sony receivers were complicated to set-up). No doubt that Anthem AVM-20 is an impressive pre-pro. My Rotel dealer also carries Anthem as well as NAD, Audio Refinement, Perreaux, Plinus, and Audio Research. Anthem was his recommendation to me if I wanted something more "musical" than Rotel. Audio Refinement falls somewhere in between Rotel and Anthem. I actually have a few months to upgrade if I really wanted to. He told me I could audition any of these any time that I wanted to; just to give him an advance notice so that he could set them up properly in one of his soundrooms. He has a generous one time upgrade within six months of purchase from him as long as one is upgrading to higher end gear.

For now I'm happy with my Rotel and new LSi 15s. This is coming from someone who just 8 months ago had an entry level Onkyo and RT35i speakers for mains. If I ever get the urge to upgrade in the future (a year or two) Anthem will be high on my list to audition for sure.

what is the differance between the price point of the rotel 1066 and Anthem AVM-20 thanks.

The difference is huge. The RSP 1066 retails for $1499. One can usually get a 10% discount from a Rotel dealer.

The Anthem AVM-20 I believe retails for $3,400. One of the reasons I haven't sat down and listened and compared this unit to Rotel. I'm afraid I might like it too much and I'm weak in the knees when it comes to upgrades!

By the way. The new Rotel RSP 1098 pre-pro is out and the word on the street is that it sounds better than the 1066.

Yeah this thing is amazing! I started running wire last night for my Lsi9's, which will be on Zone 2 as a 2channel setup.

The price of the Anthem is considerably more than the Rotel gear, but you really do get alot for your money.

Before anyone gets pissed off and starts calling me names .......No I'm not bashing Rotel or any other brands, just sharing my experience with this equipment.

    pjdami,
I can understand not wanting to listen to a certain piece of equipment due to the possiblity of becomming hooked. Been there, done that!!:D

    gonz,

I don't know what the RSP 1098 is selling for. It hasn't been out long and Rotel hasn't updated their main website with retail pricing.

I posted a reply over at Club Rotel about your question. There are some folks over there upgrading to the new RSP 1098.

If you are thinking about getting into Rotel, then there is a wealth of info over there. You should read about the bass management issues with multichannel inputs if you are into SACD or DVD audio. They have a fix though; just make sure your unit has the fix if you get one new from a dealer.

Well, yea, sometimes. I guess in reality I don't really change the volume much either unless a particular album is way louder or softer than the average.

Sorry for hijacking the thread. It was just too much fun though. :D

Yep I have to agree. The AVM20 is definately on my list of Pre/out. However spending $4k+ you might as well save a little more and get a Lexicon MC-8. Which is way way on top of my list :)

Anyway, AVM20 is a kick **** unit. No doubt.
