Settings for my new Velodyne CHT-15!

I have set all my polks to small setting and receiver to 200hz. I'm bypassing my receiver in other words.

I have set my Velodyne CHT-15's volume to half-way and phase knob to 0. High pass switch to 80z and low pass knob set to 100hz.

I like to know what I'm doing wrong here and what does the phase knob do?

Uh......

why 200hz? Thats pretty high. Like Bose Cube high. 80hz, 100hz...any of them options on the receiver? If you set the receiver crossover to 200hz, you need to set your sub crossover to 200hz or greater. In which, I doubt you can! lol! So set your receiver crossover to 80hz, or 100hz. If you set it to 80hz, then I would set the sub to 80 or 100hz. If you set the receiver to 100hz, then I would set the subwoofer to 120hz so you don't double filter.


Toggle the phase switch to see what sounds best to you.

Wouldnt the low pass be set to a lower amount than the high pass? Like set the low pass to 20hz, and the high pass to 100hz? That dosn't make sense to me. As low frequencies are low, and high frequencies are high.

Set all speaks to small.

Set the AVR to 80 Hz as the subwoofer crossover.

Run a sub cable from the subwoofer pre-out on the AVR to the Subwoofer Direct input on the CHT-15.

Ignore the hi/low pass settings, as they will be bypassed with the Subwoofer Direct input.

Rule of thumb: Set the phase to 0 if the sub is near the front stage. Set it to 180 if the sub is on the other side of the room.

Set the sub level in the AVR to -5. Adjust the subwoofer volume at the CHT-15 to match or slightly exceed the other speakers. Use an SPL meter for calibrating.

Thanks Doc, I have a Technics A/V receiver and the crossover starts at 100hz. (100 150 200)

I've set the crossover to 100hz on the receiver. Sub level is set at +3 db.

Phase on sub is at 0. (0-180)

Highpass swith is set on 80hz (80-100)

Lowpass X-over is set at 120hz (40-120)

X-over switch is set on IN (IN/OUT)

Audio/Video switch is set on Video

Is there anything I'm doing wrong here let me know!

My all speakers are set at SMALL setting and the SUB is on.

Dr. Spec

1) Set the subwoofer speaker level in the Technics to -5. This is not a dB reading, it is an arbitrary setting on a scale of probably -10 to +10.

2) Use the Subwoofer Direct input on the CHT15.

3) IGNORE the xo settings on the sub.

4) Adjust the CHT15 volume at the sub itself. Calibrate the speakers and the sub levels with a SPL meter.

Ok Doc, when you say ignore the xo settings, that means should I leave them where ever I want. Won't effect anything at all! I left the low pass at 100hz

How about the X-over switch IN/OUT?

In the manual it says use IN if you're using sub-crossover use OUT if you're using receiver's X-over. I set it to OUT.

How about high pass swith I left it on 100hz (80-100)

I wish I had the manual, but it is not available on line. If that's what the manual says, then it is correct to set the switch to out.

Based on what I could glean from the website, I thought that perhaps there was a Subwoofer Direct input on the back of the sub. If there is such an animal, use it. If there is not, then set the switch to out.

Setting the switch to out will bypass the hi/low xo network, so the settings are not relevant. The the sub will simply play what the AVR sends it.

Also for $400 CDN. more I can buy HK AVR-7200 but I heard Harman Kardon receivers do have problems and lot of users already complained about this receiver.

I trust Denon so I'll buy it.
