What do y'all listen to?

Since most of the posters here appear much older than me, I have pigeon-holed all of you as listening to exclusively classic rock and/or classical/jazz. Am I spot on? I personally listen to a lot of punk, indie rock, stoner rock, and hip-hop along with a little bit of most other genres.

In a word, music. Anything and everything but rap and opera. I lean more toward listening to well recorded music, but that's just me.
I believe that you would be extremely surprised at the vast array of music folks here listen too.~ In search of accurate reproduction of music. Real sound is my reference and while perfection may not be attainable? If I chase it, I might just catch excellence. ~ -
Anything But Country. I like some classic rock on occasion, but eventually it bores me. I'm always craving something new and different. Besides the main categories, I hate the use of genres in music. I like musicianship, but I prefer a good song.
-
I was just kidding about classic rock stereotype. I figure people who care enough about music to frequent a speaker forum likely have broad tastes.
Are y'all excited about the new Earth album? I'm trying to hold off on listening to the leak until my copy gets here. -
Before I found Polk Audio it was strictly Rock. Over the years it now includes Blues, Jazz, Classical, Orchestral to name a few. Thanks guys.Michael
In the beginning, all knowledge was new!

Mostly rock. Classic rock... not so much, but some. A little Jazz. My collection spans nearly a century of what I would consider good music. Good music has no genre.-Kevin

I really enjoy the interchannel static on FM.
Otherwise, in my dotage I've become a big, big fan of what Tom Brennan refers to as "little girl with guitar" music.
among my faves, the Wailin Jennys, who have a new album coming out just next week, as luck would have it.

Otherwise, I listen to pretty much everything except jazz and rap. I don't "get" most forms of jazz (no matter how well recorded - to me, noodling is noodling). -
I am 57 years old, obviously into classic rock.
I am in to bluegrass music, jazz.
I listen to the Jam On station on Sirus Satellite and have gotten on to a lot of bands from hearing them.
Widespread Panic, John Butler Trio, MOE, Umphries McGee.
I strongly advise you check these CD's
Widespread Panic.. Dirty Side Down
John Butler Trio.. Sunrise Over Sea
Umphries McGee... Live At the Murat
They are all incredible albums.

For me since i m more guitar driven i go for Rock , blues or heavy metal , with Jazz i only hear Django Reinhardt since i have a "bad" variation in the cord changes i stick more to flamenco .

Having a good system open's your ears to well recorded music. I have mostly metal, blues, and new-age, but also jazz and blue grass in my collection now.
The down side to having a nice system, is, you can hear just how awful some of your music sounds as well.I refuse to argue with idiots, because people can't tell the DIFFERENCE! -

LOL - that's probably true for 95% of rap music. But some groups like The Roots, really are quite talented. But I'd rather listen to rock than rap any day.ALL BOXED UP for a while until I save up for a new place

It doesn't matter what you normally listen to, you just haven't truly heard music until you have heard David Garrett's cover of Michael Jackson's Smooth Criminal. Not to mention he is just an outstandingly beautiful man.

Feel free to also search YouTube for his equally excellent renditions of AC/DC's Thunderstruck and Metallica's Nothing Else Matters. -

Wow.
Now I know what I'm going to do first thing tomorrow; go buy a violin and smash it. Then I'm going to take the resulting splinters and shove them into my ears so I never accidentally hear that shlock again. (strike that, the splinters go into my eyes so I never see that putz again)Sounds good to me... -

While I won't go that far...BUT...
The Michael Jackson song I can't comment on much because I don't really like the original...so I definitely didn't care for the violin "cover". The whole time I was thinking of a couple of bluegrass "fiddlers" that would eat this guy for lunch.
To be fair...I searched for "Thunderstruck" which is an AC/DC favorite of mine. WHAT AN ABOMINATION! I can imagine Angus, Malcolm, Brian and the boys clawing at their ears and grimacing in pain upon hearing what is being done to their tune….
If I never hear David Garrett play another note on a violin during my lifetime...that is just fine by me."Just because youre offended doesnt mean youre right." - Ricky Gervais

Yeah... he's apparently German... it explains a lot. I think the Smooth Criminal cover is hilarious. The others are borderline offensive. When I made my first post about him I wasn't aware he also did Led Zeppelin's Kashmir. I only made it through the first minute before thinking this has to be illegal. I couldn't get all the way through it.
Seriously, though, I like pretty much anything, mostly Jazz, Rock, and Industrial, but some things only in small doses. Not a fan of opera, but can listen to Pavarotti or 3 Tenors kind of stuff, don't like rap, but have some good vintage rap, don't like country at all, but I do have some old country and like looking at Sara Evans album covers. -
Just got a mix of CDs and SACDs:
* Lynyrd Skynyrd: Essential Skynyrd -2 CD set - VERY good
* Fleetwood Mac: Rumors - yeah I know everyone has a copy except me - ya know -this is a clean impressive CD!
* Gary Burton (w/ Chick Corea, Pat Metheny, Roy Haynes, Dave Holland): Like Minds - way cool jazz SACD!
* Dexter Gordon: GO - SACD - up next!
