WATT Quality
I have seen many post where people are talking about certain speakers needing a strong power source to get them to perform well.Does this come into play when using your amp over its 3/4 output mark or is this a factor throughout its power range. Can you use a 100watt receiver to push 200watt speakers if you dont push your receiver to its max anyway or is there a reason to have a stronger amp other than its maximum output. Is this why some speakers may say 20-150 watt etc . Lastly if I may ask (without a religious speaker war) is there a simple reason why speaker sensitivity varies so much and is this a consideration for people with lower power amp/receivers 120 watt down. My Wharfedale's are 89db and the Klipsch Ref-62's are 97db.
If all things being equal is a more efficient speaker a better choice?
Does anyone else have a lisp when they say Klipsch !

Just a quote so you know what I am talking about.

The RTi A7 needs very good quality power to perform optimally.
Quality power ? What are they referring too. -
I'm sure someone can describe this better and more technically than I can. It's basically giving it good CLEAN power, from an amplifier vs a receiver. This means at 100w an amp might only have .03% distortion vs a receiver that claims 100w at .09% distortion. Like my receiver for example CLAIMS 120w, but pushes about 29 watts with all channels driven. My amp pushes 130 watts and plays much louder than i've ever tried without any distortion.

a all to common misconception is that quality power is the same as high quantity power. The link by mhardy is a good thread to start with.design is where science and art break even.

Wow am reading the article above and just realized that this ostrich(me) needs more neck to shove in the sand. I am more confused now than I was picking a wife. So apparently a Watt is not a Watt..what? Some Watts are beefer than others and some watts are just gorgeous....aaahh!
I see far more reading in my future.

Beefer
A person who is fat, socially awkward, extremely unathletic, and permanently smells like a mixture of body odor and farts. The central wardrobe items in every beefer's closet are tapered sweat pants, novelty t-shirts, flannel and jean jackets. Beefers typically sweat 8-10 times more than their non-beefer counterparts, and have armpit stains within 30 minutes of showing and dressing in the morning. Easily identifiable by their dirt staches, horrid breath and die-hard love for the game of hockey. Only males can be classified as a beefer.
Person 1: Did you catch a whiff of those fat losers trading hockey cards in the K-Mart parking lot yesterday?
Person 2: Yeah, what a bunch of beefers. -
Did you really spend time out of your day to point out that I missed an "i" in the word beefer ,should have been "beefier".
Seems you know a lot about BEEFERS though. -

I didn't think you miss spelled a word, just though you were using a common street slang term and was interpreting for us oldsters.

It goes without saying that speakers will always benefit from better quality amplification--note I said "quality" and not necessarily quantity.
Quantity is dependant on your speakers efficiency, room size, and levels at whcih you like to listen.
The efficiency of a speaker rarely has anything to do with its quality; it's just a function of crossover design, choice of drivers, and enclosure type/volume.Source: Bluesound Node 2i - Preamp/DAC: Benchmark DAC2 DX - Amp: Parasound Halo A21 - Speakers: MartinLogan Motion 60XTi - Shop Rig: Yamaha A-S501 Integrated - Shop Spkrs: Elac Debut 2.0 B5.2 -
