Thoughts on new RTI Setup

time to upgrade my $150 RCA HTIB.

Here are my current plans:
fronts: RTI A7
center: CSI A6
rear: RTI A5 or FXi A6 (leaning A5)
sub: PSW 125 or Klipsch SW 450 (leaning Klipsch)
receiver: Yamaha RX-A1000

Used mostly for HT, in a fairly large living room. Any feedback thoughts on the rear/sub choices (cost is about the same for the 2 in each category so I'm need from a performance perspective)?

I'm looking at a similar setup so I'm interested in hearing the replies.

Personally, I'd choose the FXi A6 as rears, but more for consideration of aesthetics; I'll more than likely wall mount them. I'm thinking that a wall mount will be somewhat less obtrusive.
    Polk Fronts: RTi A7's
    Polk Center: CSi A6
    Polk Surrounds: FXi A6's
    Polk Rear Surround: RTi4
    Sub: HSU VTF-3 (MK1)
    AVR: Yamaha RX-A2010
    B&K Reference 200.7
    TV: Sharp LC-70LE847U
    Oppo BDP-103

The RTia7/RTia5 combo with the CSia6 center channel will be a great HT system.

Looks like a nice set-up. Any of the speakers you listed will do well. I found the FXi A4's (have not heard the A6's) to be better suited for movies. They are more open and non directional.

That's an awesome system you got going on there. Just a matter of personal opinion but i'd take the Fxi's for surrounds, especially for HT. I can also say I would hands down take the Klipsch sub any day. It's a good sub and digs deep for movies, it'll blow that Psw125 away. The Psw505 is more comparable to the Klipsch than the Psw125. Good luck on the system and welcome to club polk.

    Instead of a7's and a5's I'd get a pair of A9's/csi a6/ fxi a6's.

thanks for the insight, I thought about the A9's but that would add a significant amount to this project plus the A9's seem to be power hogs (and I have no plans for an amp in the immediate future).

I recommend the FX style speakers for the rear. I had a CSi5 along with four RTi10's at one time and replaced the rear set of RTi10's with a pair or FXi3's and preferred that set up for movies. I must admit four floorstanders is pretty nice for music though. I also tried RTi6's for a little bit but still prefered the FXi3 or FXi5 for the rear. You could always save money on getting either FXiA4's of FXi3's for the rear as well. I have owned both the FXi3's and FXi5's. The 5's are nice if you can get a good deal on them, but I am not sure if the price difference justifies the improvement in performance. You could always look for a deal on a pair for RTi12's instead of 9's to save money.

I would get the RTIA5s or RTI7s to start,as the A9's would need external amplication to truly shine,so an added cost.

HT surrounds are intended to be mounted higher than a floorstanding speaker. Go FXi for surround. you'll have a nice system. Good luck!

Please see below for my recommendation. We could not be happier with our system for either movies or music.

Might agree with the post above that the 125 sub may not match well with your other selections, from a performance standpoint. I've heard the 505 is good ... wouldn't cut a corner there.
    Marantz AV7005
    Marantz MM7055
    Onkyo DX-755 CdP
    Oppo BDP-93
    Technics SL-1301/Shure M97xE

    Polk CSi A6
    Polk FXi A6s
    Velodyne VDR10-BV
    Panamax M5100-PM

The PSW 505 is a better sub than the PSW 125. More powerful, goes lower, better build and has a removable grill. Its equally good for both Music and H/T. The 505 was originally built as part of the RTi Line with the Real Wood Vineer instead of Vinyl for the PSW 125. Your other RTI choices are very good...especially the Front 3.

Not sure the Yamaha is the best match for the RTi series. IMO bright receiver + bright speakers = way too bright. I would look at Harmon Kardon or Pioneer in addtion to the Onkyo. I would suggest using the FXi for surrand and moving some of that speaker buddget towards the subwoofer since you will use it mostly for HT.

I had a Yamaha Rxv1800 and I liked it with my Monitors but as soon as I got the Rti's it was way too bright for me. I sold it and got a pioneer vsx1120, I liked the sound a lot better.
