I thought this might be fun but what mod/upgrade didn't work for you or went bad???:wink::tongue::cool::frown::eek:

I will say the one Mod/Upgrade that went bad and cost me some money is putting BlackHole5 and Sonic Barrier in my 1.2tl's!!! MORE IS NOT ALWAYS BETTER!! that was an expensive mistake..

Another one was trying to stain/repaint the wood caps on my 1C's I ended up wasting a lot of time doing this thinking I could save some money.in the end it cost me more. after two sets I ended up spending the money on some solid oak and doing it right..

Well what have you done??? c'mon let it out!!!

I traded in a vehicle that had less than 40,000 miles because I wanted the "new" model. The model that I traded in was the final year model that had all of the kinks worked out, only to waste money on the new model that went in the shop so many times (during the first six months) that the state's Lemon Law kicked in.

Although I got my money back, I could not get back the car that I traded in.

When I replaced the 15" passives with 15" subs in my 2.3tl's, just kidding. When I replaced the donut drivers in my 2.3's for some regular 6502 MW's, not what I expected.

Quite recently I tried upgrading/modding my Entech Number Cruncher DAC to more modern DAC/Receiver only to render it completely dead and all the trouble shooting in the world won't reveal what went wrong.

Also, I'm still in the middle of modding/upgrading my Eico ST-70 and it sounds great but one channel is playing much louder than the other. I got so frustrated trying to find the problem that for it's sake and my sanity I've not looked at it for a couple of weeks. I'll go back to it after I've completed my upcoming new careeer training in "Use of Force". Hehe.

Oh here's a good one. About 10 years ago, my buddy bought some nice vintage Sony fullrange floorstanding speakers from his step dad... and proceeded to cut a hole in the cabinet, thinking it would increase the bass. He didn't realize you have to make an actual port. But we were 12/13 years old... who knew at that age?

On a more positive note, his step dad has a pair of SDA-SRSs. And that's what got me hooked on Polk to this day.

I just lost my brand new Sumiko Bluepoint EvoIII to a damaged wire on the left channel:mad::mad::mad:...

I have not had the damn thing that long, and NOBODY touches my turntable! I take great care to make certain that nothing touched the cartridge body, and still the wire somehow was torn. It is now a useless $400 dollar piece of eye-candy. It really pisses me off as this setup was just starting to bloom. I don't know when I will be able to afford a new cartridge, so my vinyl sits idle and may be doing so for a very long time:mad::mad::mad::frown:...

Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. I "upgraded" the caps, rectifiers and resistors in the power supply on my jolida sj 502 after a resistor burned out. All was good until the power tubes started arcing. At $200 a set and now the second set having arced I am trying to get the motivation up to tackle the fix. I also wrecked a sony cdp with too many mods and dis-assembly times that I broke it. Thats it so far. I'm sure there will be more.

RDO's into my rta's and converting crossovers to TL specs. overly bright even with treble pulled out quite a bit. good midrange, but seemed to lack a TON in the low end vs. totally stock.

added mortite to the drivers, slight bass improvement, but very very little. decided to scrap the whole project and move on to bigger speakers lol

I've been lucky with my audio gear as it is lower end, but my car is a tough one on mods. :( Tried the latest greatest parts that claim to do this and that and I end up going slower.

Rear end gears were a pain a little while baclk, I had a 4.10 gear then switched out to a 4.30 gear so I would be in the upper rpms by the end of the 1/4 mile, but on my second launch I ripped the gears right out of it! Costly venture! :)

Got over that one and decided that a 4.56 gear would work better! A little toughter on the street but works great at the strip. On the street I am almost shifiting into 3rd gear by the time I am through the intersection. lol

One time I thought I had ripped the clutch out of it at the track, but it was just the clutch cable flying off. Since then the clutch has gone and switched out to a Zoom stage 2 racnig clutch. No more slippage now! :)

Many many things can go wrong when doing upgrades and trying the latest snake oil!

Last year I added adjustable shocks to the rear and now I have lost traction. Still trying to figure that one out.

Car is in storage for the Winter, so in May once I hit the track with new slicks, I will see if the shocks work better; if not out they come and the old ones back into it. lol

I am sure some of you that are mod friendly with your audio gear go through the same things that I go through with my car.

Heres a walkaround vid of my car that I shot last year, music to my ears! :) lol

    th_d005af6c.jpg

Here is a shot at the track from last year. It was hooking up good that day! (pre shock change) lol

    b212314b.jpg

Sorry for jacking your thread with my car but I love music and cars, so I thought I would share my other passion and talk about the mods.

you would have thought right? before and after assembly i did measurements on what the actual load of the entire system was. LF was about 3.9, RF was dead on 4.0 ohms. i downloaded the TL schematic and followed the entire circuit for the tweeter and midwoofers. everything was good and where it should be, and the solder joints were done right. the ONLY thing i could figure out is maybe i used cheap solder? otherwise it was just too much tweeter and not enough driver as the 8's have always lacked that low end IMO. unless a bad solen cap was in the circuits, which was very possible as well.

either way, it was a mod/upgrade that didnt work and went bad for me  lol

I applied the BH5 mod I did to my 1.2TLs and have had successful results. I did a full review on it and am trying to persuade Tool to redo/reconsider his mod. I have not been successful in this "persuasion..." Difference is between my mod and Tools is that I did not use Sonic Barrier on the sides and I kept my BH5 only in the midrange area, not going into the the passive radiator area.

A mod that I tried was replacing the binding posts with Cardas CCRG. I was not happy with the results, and got 2/3rds back for what I paid for it. When I went with Vampire, it was more revealing, detailed, and very smooth. Best binding posts I've used. I have not used WBT, but I am not one to spending thousands of $$$ to replace all my binding posts.
