Receiver issue??? (repost forgot to say HELP NEEDED)

So I made the mistake of going cheap on the receiver.... really cheap Onkyo tx-sr308 $200 no tax + free shipping.

My main problem is certain Blu Ray movies will give a high frequency pitch (coming out of the tweeters) during dialogue and only during dialogue but not during all dialogue. The Departed was especially bad. I was going to switch out my center to see if it was a problem but instead i just changed listening modes. I can get it to come out of whatever speaker is playing the dialogue. I am wondering if it is my 25 year young ears picking it up. I had 2 friends come over to check it out 1 could hear it the other said "who knows my ears always ring." Think mosquito hearing test. Streaming Netflix or listening to the radio or iPod doesn't do this...
I find it to mostly be on movies with DTS-HD and Dolby TrueHD available, both codecs are supported by my Onkyo. I haven't called Onkyo support because I go to work at 7 and get home after 5 normally during their call center hours.

I am willing to blame my receiver, but any input on other things to try would be great. Also is there a possibility some other electronic in the house could be causing this? Would a power conditioner be helpful?

I went down to just the blu ray player playing audio to the receiver, with the speakers hooked up, tv hdmi wasnt connected, digital antenna not connected either. still got high pitch noise coming in and out in all listening modes wherever dialogue is coming out. Also if anyone can help me find the a/v sync on an onkyo menu that'd be nice because hdmi lip sync on doesn't always work the best on this model. It says there is an a/v sync setting but I haven't found it and the directions don't help because it is not adjustable in that menu.

Nope, I guess I will give that a try but wouldn't I not be able to hear it, because headphones don't have a tweeter or yes because its a frequency thing?

If you're saying the high pitch noise is showing up on whichever speaker there is dialog, I figure if it's a problem from the source, it might be the receiver (or player). It's coming from the tweeter probably b/c those frequencies are always sent to the tweeter right? So if headphones are full range, that noise should show up there as well. (my thought process anyway).

Couldn't find a pair of headphones to test but talked to Onkyo support today, they said there are no reported incidents of this, which doesn't surprise me, I couldn't find anything online, I am guessing it is the Blu Ray player because I hooked up the lappy and did several sound tests and didn't get any of the noise. I even ran the Blu Ray direct to the tv and sound to the receiver and still got it. I need to test a different Blu Ray player is my decision.

Could swap out the HDMI cable between Blu-Ray and AVR to rule this out?

Swapped out HDMI cables already. Could it be the speakers?

I built a HTPC and I also have a noise issue on my back speaker surrounds, its a computer issue and not an avr. I almost replaced my avr because of this noise, but not that I haven't found a way to fix it sorry. I think we're in the same boat.

Good to know someone else has similar problems, but mine isn't just with my PC, I am just afraid it might be my shiny new polks, like maybe a roommate got a hold of my gear while I was away and tried impressing someone and cranked it, I personally have never gone above 55 out of 80 on my receiver volume unless it is a quiet movie like V for Vendetta. Could 65wpc actually damage my speakers at a high volume for 1 second if thats the case?

It's also possible your volume setting is too high causing an issue.

They are saying it is possibly a receiver grounding issue, when last time I had called they had no possible clue....

Do you have cable TV? The cable TV ground can often introduce hum the get to you receiver via the HDMI cable. You said the HDMI was disconnected but have you tried disconnecting the coax cable at the wall?

Yeah no cable tv, I had a digital antenna attached but it has been removed while i was testing, I went down to a single speaker and moved it around to different channels in all channel stereo and still getting it... so i will call the onkyo center see if its worth bringing it in or just get a new receiver, it is still under warranty and it works fine for most uses most of the time. I really don't want to be without a receiver for 4 weeks though...
