I just purchased a pair of Monitor 70s Series II and a CS10. They should arrive tomorrow, I can't wait! The 70s will be my first pair of floorstanding speakers. I've been reading mixed reviews about breaking in new speakers. Is there really a break in period?? If so, whats proper way to do it? I was also wondering if there's a benefit to bi-amping the speakers.

My new setup will be

Onkyo TX-SR608
Monitor 70s
CS10
10 in Kenwood sub
Kenwood Rear surrounds

First of all I recommend giving the speakers time to warm up to room temperature. I am up north so when I got my Monitor 60's I let them sit overnight before I even hooked them up.

Regarding break in, they will open up some the longer you play them as the woofer cone slowly starts to loosen up. The capacitors also will need some time to burn in potentially. One way lots of us do that is to just leave the radio on when we go to work at a low volume for a couple days. It wont be a night and day change but over the first week they will sound a bit better each day.

But thats just my experience. YMMV.

I tried it and will say it made no difference, but others say they noticed a difference. If you want to give it a go it will only cost you a little bit of extra speaker wire (and 7.1) so its not really a big deal IMO. So give it a try and let your ears decide (not others)
