Oppo BDP 93 no stereo output??

I have a "old" :) Oppo BDP 83SE that I use for stereo music only. I was totally impressed by the state of art DAC's, and stellar reviews and decided it was for me. Plus it did SACD's.
I have it hooked up to a Sunfire Receiver that I use solely as a integrated stereo amp. I have no need for all the other HT stuff.
I have the dedicated stereo audio out on the Oppo go straight to the Receiver. I run it solely on sourcedirect which means none of the HT programs mess with MY music.
My Speakers are polk rtia9's which I wouldn't have gotten if not for the incredible deal I got from the vendor...
Any way I noticed that Oppo has come out with a bdp 93...Hmm..maybe someday I will have to upgrade. probably not, but curiousity had me read on.

They have eliminated the stereo outputs!

If you want stereo you have to juryrig the front and left speaker outputs and use their Bass Management program to regenerate stereo.
Not for me..no way.
I don't play my Sunfire reciever on anything but sourcedirect.
I wouldn't ever consider this an acceptable "workaround".
WTF?
I guess I will have to shut down my interest in Oppo, like, forever.
(heavy sigh)

Would any of you 2 channel hobbyist think this was acceptable?

It has rca preouts for all channels. If you are listening to a stereo source, it's going to play out of the L&R main outputs only. You only have to fudge with the bass mgmt if you are listening to a multichannel source, through a 2ch system. There is no downmixing from a redbook, stereo cd.

    Cheers,
    Russ

While I do prefer having the dedicates set of stereo outputs, I wouldn't go so far as to say something like "I guess I will have to shut down my interest in Oppo, like, forever".

    Jeebus, overreact much?

Not really. If you think about it I already have the 83SE that does exactly what I want. I'm only glad I got in before they changed things.
I'm not a ht addict. What else can Oppo offer that I want? HT?
    Nothing. So long Oppo.
You see, Oppo got rid of a feature that I consider important to save, what?, $1.50? Who knows. That is their way of saying people who have similar tastes to me aren't important to them. It has to go both ways.

Actually, the 83SE replacement unit is the 95 which has dedicated stereo outputs (both balanced and single-ended). Buy the right tool for the job.

Ahhh! I did not know about the 95.

It has the same DAC's as the 83SE and has the above mentioned stereo outputs. XLR's do fit into my somedaywhenIhavenobills plans.
Its good to know I will have an upgrade path when I get separates with XLR's. And i will.
I didnt want to be presented with "a buy a HR set up cause we aren't making pure stereo anymore."

    good for me.

Like I said, you over-reacted. I'm not trying to be a ****, but you reacted to a situation swiftly and ultimately (saying I've NEVER buy Oppo again) without having all the pertinent information relevant to the topic.

    I believe that's a textbook case scenario of over-reacting.

I'm glad you're happy though and are no longer going to completely abandon a company because of one decision made on a single product.

The 95 got better DAC's than the 83SE, not the same ones. It also got better power supply.

Another thing that made the 93/95 stand above the 83SE is the addition of an eSATA port which allows you to play media files on your external hard drive at a higher speed comparing to the 83/83SE's USB port.

For me, its all about the audio. I would never consider the $499 '93 as an upgrade to the 83SE. The 95 yes, without question. The XLR's make it a future possiblity for me.
