Hi

I have this set-up going on 9 years and time for an upgrade.See below for my current set-up.

I'm very happy with my center CS400i and my Side surrounds FXi50 and want to keep them.

Speakers I want to upgrade are RTi70's and the RTi28's.

The front sides RTi70 are good but I never was really happy with them. They kind of sound too warm for my taste if that makes sense. Just not enough.. I don't know but there's just not enough. THey kind of sound too muffled for my ears.

The RTi28's are also OK but they seem over powered by the sides.

Over the years I tried messing around with the volume and such but they never seemed right to my ears .

I'm more concerned with replacing the front left and right than the rear surrounds at the moment due to money concerns.

To help you help me this is what I'm looking for..

I want something that's clear and bright if that makes sense. This is what sounds good to my ears..I don't like that soft warm sound at all.

I mainly watch movies and play games..very little listening to music so I would say 85% for movies and games and 15% for music.

Being that these speakers Front left/right are part of the RTi series which
current series should I look at that would blend with the other speakers and give me that clear bright sound that I'm after ?

Thanks for your time.

My current set-up.

AVR Onkyo TX-NR3008

CS400i Center Speaker

RTi70 Front Left and Right

FXi50 Side Surrounds (2)

RTi28 Rear Surrounds (2)

I'd go Rti8 or Rtia5. Good mids, blend well with sub. Very detailed, brighter than your old speakers. The Rtia series is supposed to be a little less bright than the Rti for the record.

As already stated, the RTIA line sounds ideal for what you want. I have the A5's and have been very pleased with their performance.

I wouldn't waste my time with Rti-A5s but go directly to the Rti-A9s as Leroy suggests above. The reason is that your current front speakers are almost as good if not as good as Rti-A5s already. If you want to HEAR a difference, you just have to go with the current Flagship or it's not really an 'upgrade'!

Your center is also comparable to a Csi-A6, though you'll probably want to match the A6 with the new A9s?

Your surrounds might also be worth 'keeping' and just invest your cash in the NEW Rti-A9s/CSi-A6 front stage L/C/R. That alone would be a decent upgrade IMO and also save you some money?

Go for the A9s! And buy a digital SPL meter from RadioShack so you can get your levels set perfectly.

    I have a SPL meter I bought about 9 years ago when I had a Denon 3802.

Now that I have the Onkyo TX-NR 3008 which has Audyssey MultEQ XT 32
my center and surround speakers never sounded sooooooo good.

    It's like night and day.

Yes the FXi50 seems to overpower the backRTi28 but I like the sound of them..very clear/crisp and bright.

I just need to add some clearness/brightness to the front left/right. I was never happy with them.

The Audyssey MultEQ XT 32 has done wonders with all my speakers except these front side speakers.

I think because they were demo's at Circuit City (Dirt Cheap) something must have happened to them..not sure what's wrong with them but they have to go.

The RTi 8's and the RTi A5 have almost the same specs as my RTi70 so they are out. I'm leaning towards the RTI 10.....Rti A7 or A9

It was said here that the RTI A series are less bright than the RTi's.

Would everyone agree the RTi's are Brighter than the RTi A 's ?

Would a speaker sound more clear/crisp/bright with a Midrange as opposed to a mid woofer ?

    Thanks

PS: My ears always feel stuff up /muffled. Been to docs and nothing found abnormal  Just the way my ears hear sound.

My CS400i has almost the same specs as the LSiC ...plus my center has bigger mid woofer's
    6 -1/2 " as oppose to 5- 1/2 " for the LSi C.
