Down firing subwoofer on it's side?

I just changed the design of my home theater. My sub is now going to be placed on the floor below a cabinet. The down firing sub won't fit - if I lay it on it's side and use it as a front firing will that dramatically change the sound?

    Im sure it would being that its designed to be "down firing"....try it and see.

    SVS pb ultra is front firing, SVS pc ultra is down firing. Both subs use the same driver and amplifier. People who have put the SVS pc ultra on its side say it sounds and works fine.

    My Hsu sub is on its side due to placement issue. No affect in sound.

    I will be buying the Outlaw LFM-1 EX this BF and I plan to put it on it's side. Hope this won't affect the sound nor does any damage to the woofer or amp.

    The Polk DSW subs have removeable feet, and extra pre-drilled holes just for this purpose. I'm sure it will be fine. Granted, it may change the sound profile a bit, but it probably wouldn't sound any different than any other front firing sub (apples to apples of course)

    You should be able to use any subwoofer in a downfiring or front firing position - the only time you should never use something in a downward firing position is like a high compliance passive radiator as "Sag" can take over.

    If anything you gain more output in a downfiring position from my understanding as gravity is not working against it as much...

    A woofer does not know where you are firing it... I am sure there are design traits that take into account the fact the floor will be reinforcing the output - if you are that concerned, fire the driver towards a wall

    I love my Outlaw LFM-1 EX but in the two-or-so years I've had it I've only used it in its intended orientation. If Scott is still at "The Outlaws" you should call and ask him if there would be any negative consequences to using it sideways.

    It may sound different initially but in reality it shuld be just as good as it was before. Go for it. Post some pics of the new setup.
    CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

    Thanks for the reply guys. Since the spot I have for the sub is at the front corner wall, I can face the driver against the front or side wall. That way it probably won't affect the design traits. I will try all positions and will post my findings.
