Well that was the most intense five days of schooling I've ever done....but I passed!!! They took the middle aged total rookie (me) and made him very proficient in using the tool that goes bang. Also it taught us a bunch of legal stuff, scenario training, takeaways, takedowns and some hand to hand combat as well. Yesterday we had to do a full minute drill where you are kicking, punching, elbowing, kneeing, and hammerfisting at full intensity, everything you got, balls to the wall, defend your life or die. If you stop or pause at all at any part of it you have to do it again. Even though I was simulating defending myself, I thought I was going to die at the 50 second mark but I pushed on. The guys are screaming at you to keep fighting your life depends on it etc. Almost had a heart attack at the end but I made it and didn't puke (apparently some people do). Good training though if you ever have to do it for real. We even had a former RCMP officer in our training group (training to be a guard) and he said the weapons and scenario training was even better than he was taught at the RCMP Academy in Saskatchewan.

Anyway, I went into the course not knowing at all what to expect and quite honestly somewhat intimidated by the tool that goes bang, but now I'm feeling much more confident about my ability to defend myself using several different options and now not at all intimidated by the bang tool. In fact I feel quite comfortable now with all aspects of that end of the trade.

I have one more course to take in security guard training before I can work but that course is much less intense and many of the same subjects are covered. In British Columbia the laws for armoured guard certification are very strict as you can tell but it's for good reason. There have been a few incidents of guards using excessive force and that has moved the government to mandate stricter guidlines for certification. A good thing yes but it all takes time and money. Oh well, at the end after working for a while I'll be able to do almost any kind of security work.

Thank you all for the well wishes, believe it or not it means a lot to me. You guy and gals are my extended disfunctional family.

LOL. No worries, he's a good friend of mine and knows I don't indulge in the other kind of smoke, but thanks for for having my back.

So is it the company or a kookie Canadian thing that prohibits you from calling your "bang tool" a gun? I used to live in TO, and I know the Canucks can get finicky over the whole "gun" thing.

If you are going to call it your "____ tool", at least call it your "super whiz bang shoot to stop not to wound that goes bang when pull the trigger-tool.":biggrin:

I had one of those. the extended mag is much too much. Imagine sitting down in a car with that on your hip.... I don't think it's possible.

Not to mention that they're less reliable due to feed failures.

Indeed, congrats on the new job Fongolio. Best wishes for success.

    dumbass, first post even.

Now, the girls behind the bank counter are in a much worse situation than you will ever be.

Many bank robberys occur in the homeboy heaven formerly known as atlanta, as wel as across america every week, at least you are on guard and armed, they are not, they are sitting ducks.

I used to date a girl who managed a bank that was robbed, one girl dead and one had her elbow blown off before anyone said a word, that could almost never happen to you.

As bad as some areas of canada might be, i doubt its anything like many areas in this otherwise great nation.

    good luck.

UPDATE I've passed the last hurdle to get my new career moving. I received my British Columbia Security Workers license. British Columbia's regulation in this area is almost silly. First you need your firearms safety license. Then you need your Possession and Acquisition License. Then you need the Armored Guard course. Then you need the transportation of a restricted firearm license, then last of all you need your BC Security Workers license which I've just received. NOW I can go to work!! It's been a long process but I will be gainfully employed in a week or two. Can't wait!!

First shift done. No one got hurt. It's all good. Thanks everyone for the well wishes. Seems like some really good people working there. I was mainly with the truck today standing guard while my partner went in for the drops and pickups. They never leave the trucks alone if there is money in them. I never thought standing around on high alert could be so tiring. I'm exhausted but the day flew by. I'm really liking being back to work.

UPDATE...I'm about 4 months in and just had a talk with the boss. I'm finished my probation and will get a dollar an hour raise and soon benefits kick in. Apparently I'm the first employee ever to make it through probation in just 4 months!! Even other friends of his that work for him have had to be on for 6 to 8 months. Feels really good to get that kind of "'atta boy"!!! Still no incidents other than usual pissed off drivers because of our being double parked sometimes. I'm really liking this job so far.

Glad you're off to a great start. I considered this in the DC area but here in the states the criminal element is insane.
