Before the "great lay-off" a few years back. I was driving 68 miles one way. And hated it, money was good though. I drive 14 miles one way now.

Used to be 20 minutes, now it's about 3.5 minutes.

Lots of people here seem to take the pros of living in a smaller city (130,000) for granted sometimes.

The longest commute any of my friends has is about 40 minutes only because he works out of the city.

27 miles/45 minutes one way; mix of deep suburban back roads and high speed freeway. Not bad unless there's an accident or it snows (a lot).

My last job as a Civil Engineer I put 52,000 miles on my company F150, in one year.

Now, I average about 8,500 miles a year. While the pay is not as good the bennies are 100x better and the stress of diving is long gone.

I'm at seven minutes, too. You seriously need to think twice about that job. Personally, I'd want to be making twice as much to spend 3 hours a day in a car.

    14 miles one way

About an hour one way. Sometimes longer.

    - 1.5 miles to train station (should only take 5 minutes, usually takes 20 cause of traffic)
    - 28 minute train ride
    - 5.5 block walk to my office, about 10 minutes.

    58 minutes total.

I'm keeping my options open. It would be a substantial increase over what I'm making now...and better experience.

Nothing is set in stone yet...and it very well could be a deal breaker...we shall see.

32 miles one way... It takes 40 minutes with no traffic, but during rush hours, anywhere from 60 to 90 minutes. There have been some nightmarish commutes that took 2 hours. I guess I hate the unpredictability of it the most.

Why not just walk to the train station? Or is that not doable? It's that extra time that kills me... an extra 15 minutes tacked onto each end of your workday is a half hour you're not getting back...

    Ummm...if you can walk 1.5 mile in 5 minutes, you're a beast.

At 2-2.5 MPH for the average human walking speed, it would take me roughly 30 minutes to walk to the train station. That doesn't take in to account days like today and tomorrow when the weather is worse than miserable. Besides, crossing major arteries on foot is not my idea of fun or safe.

I think he just mentioned it because you said it usually takes 20 minutes because of traffic.

21 miles, 45 minute drive. It was a 1.5 hour drive in the snow two days ago. It's all back roads. I have 3 ways to go, this route, Mass pike, or Rt. 20. All take the same amount of time. The back roads are the shortest distance and I prefer it since there's less traffic.

37 miles, almost all highway. On an ideal day, It takes less than 40 minutes. But it's New England, so anything can happen, and it gets as long as 90 minutes sometimes. Each way, obv.
