Help me pick

Hey guys I wanted some opinions on buying some new to me speakers. I currently have the monitor 70's that I bought because they were cheap. I think they sound alright but I'm the type who is always searching for more. I found a pair of B&W dm640's for sale for $500, and have going back and forth over buying. I have always been a dedicate Polk guy and I realize I'm in a polk forum, but the B&W's were originally $1,400 new and the Polks were $400 new. Now I know the price doesn't always tell all, but I always have the opinion that you get what you pay for. I know the B&W's are older, but I have found that age doesn't always make a speaker bad, if fact my Polk RTA 15t's I had were amazing to me. The gentleman who is selling the B&W's says the are MINT and he emphasizes not even a scratch. Which would you rather own the Monitor 70's or the B&W 640's?

+1, B&W are better. But tonyb is right. Personally, I'm not a fan of many B&W offerings. They irritate my ears. But it is true that M70s have their limitations for music...especially on the high end which is where the B&Ws are 'over detailed' IMO!

Do listen before buying B&W. IMO there are 'better' options for music? But this is very much a 'personal' bias on my part.

Thanks for your input guys, I have been leaning towards the B&W's but keep thinking about going from new speakers to ones that were made 90-93. I definitely like the look of the 640 better, the Monitor 70's to me look like they cost, cheap. I have been combing through sale sites for a pair of used Polk towers for around $500 that would be a step up from the 70's, but have had little luck. When I saw the 640's for $500 I thought the price was a little high, but that they would be a improvement. Do you guys know of any newer (by newer I mean at least 1990 or later) Polks that can be found for $500 or under that would be a jump up from the 70's

The B&W speakers are the better speaker....for HT that is. For music, not so much. Well, if you thought the Polk speakers were ok then you will love these for sure. Listen to them first and let your ears be the deciding factor. Remember that these speakers will sound different from the sellers place to yours.
