Looking at this CL ad and I may try to get these 10's for $25 but the other stuff to part out on ebay or garage sale later. But the speaker that has me stumped is in the picture in the lower right w/ the drivers in view from behind, does anyone know what this is and what do you think?

Seriously, take it and run. In the pics the Monitor 10's have peerless tweeters. If they work they are worth the cost by themselves.

Wish I was closer, I would grab it all..

Will do :) I noticed the peerless just not happy most of the mids appear to be bad so I'll have to get it home and check it out closer. Again does anyone recognize the larger speaker with the backside of drivers visible? could this be the one he is refering to as a viking? Thanks for the motivation guys.

THe tweeters are worth than the asking price if it is 50 smackers, and the mid-woofers are readily replaceable.

N.B. I DIDN'T LOOK AT THE AD, GIVEN THE ADVICE IN THE FIRST REPLY :-)

I did. :) Actually went to another sale as well and picked up a pair of ADC 303AX (about the size of a monitor 7) as well. I didn't even look under the grills unfortuately and found out at home that the tweeter are different, but still I got them 2 toys for my daughter and a 60lb weight set w/ bar for $25. So I'll give more details later and post some pics, they were rough but for everything I got for $75 I'm happy.

OK guys here's an update and some pics. Overall am still happy because I have some stuff to play around with but there are some obvious problems. The Polks are very rough... 1 peerless works the other no sound but haven't pulled anything out of box yet.:frown: Also ea spk has a bad 6 1/2 so sound is crap and someone has refoamed these instead of the rubber surrounds. The passives seem ok. On the back of one speakers the terminal box is cracked on top, so that will need to be replaced as well. Did I mention they have a nice black paint job over the cabs. Are these older ones solid wood? If so I will sand and restain them. I'm considering ordering 4 of the replacement mids for my working pair of 10's and moving those other drivers to this rejected pair. How different is the crossover if I wanted to find another peerless and move those to the good pair? If not feasible then I'll just have to find one and replace in the older one. As to the other loot-- well the Curtis Mathes spk both work though they are cheap and might give to my son. The ADC actually are quite nice aside from the fact that one of the tweeters has been replaced with something more like a car speaker than anything resembling the original tweeter. The cabinets will clean up well and can be sanded and stained. If I can find an original tweeter then I'll probably keep them for now. The rest was mainly junk but was an interesting haul. I got 2 old AM car radio's one of which is for a Mercury and that might be of use to someone trying to redo a vintage ride. Also got some older 8 track car player and what looks like a pretty early pioneer car cassette player. The guy I got the ADC speakers from threw in a couple of toys for my daghter and a 60lb dumbell set w/ bar for an extra $5. All in all I had alot of fun and now can start looking for some drivers, tweets,a nd get my refinishing skills out of the closet. So far $75 spent will need more money to bring them back to life but I believe it will be a fun project.

Those are the stock rubber surrounds. The older Polk's had a paper ring to help press the rubber surround into place when manufacturing them. I may have one or two of those drivers in GA. I won't be there until April though.
Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.
    Thanks
