My friend wants to spend around 1000 for a complete ht system. He will use it for rock music and movies. I told him to get the monitor 70's, monitor 40's, cs20 center channel, and dayton 12 sub, and a pioneer receiver.
I priced it all up to be $1060

he found this deal on newegg.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.590801&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-_-na-_-na-_-na&AID=10440897&PID=806314&SID=C5B1L3BR2S34225-2011-01-25-12-35-p-62915

for klipsch speakers set. How well do klipsch compare to polk?

I'd take the Klipsch reference series over Polks Monitor series.

Klipsch has a hotter top end than Polk, means they'll have a brighter sound to them and may not be as fun to listen to for longer periods of time.

It's all a matter of preference, but I think Polk has a much more balanced sound than Klipsch.

Also, do some searching around on the forum, this has been discussed ad nauseum here previously

The speakers you spec'd are very close to my HT (I have OWM 3's as surrounds and a Polk sub), and I love it. I definitely don't feel like I'm missing out on any detail in movies, and I like it for the kind of music I listen to (jazz more than anything, some rock, some pop) when I'm listening in my HT room.

But, that's a pretty sweet deal on the Klipsch stuff. If he wants to spend the extra $400, the Klipsch setup would probably be a little nicer for movies and rock. I've owned Klipsch stuff and I got tired of the horns. Most people who have a problem with Klipsch, it's because of those horns for the top end (as Assimilated said). If your buddy can listen to a set of Klipsch reference with the kind of music he's into before buying, he might get at least a sense of it.

If he does decide to go with the Klipsch combo from Newegg, he might want to call and do it quick. It looks like the center channel is sold out!

I'd take the Klipsch reference series over the monitors all day. I think the Synergy series is more comparable to the monitor line and the reference series is closer to the Rti line as far as sound and build quality.

It really depends on what you think of HORNS! Klipsch horns, that is.
There is no denying that the Klipsch Reference series is a step up from the Monitor line. B run is more correct in his comparison above. Synergy vs. Monitor/TSI....got to give it to the Polks for balanced sound.

Reference Klipsch should be compared to RTI-A speakers. There too, I'd give the more balanced sound to the Polks but hey, it's a matter of opinion and preference.

That is a NICE package at Newegg...but the Klipsch might be a little BRIGHT on an ONKYO?

The Klipsch's are much more dynami than the RTI's at reference level the RTI's are put to shame.

Klipsch speakers are well regarded speakers just like Polk but for different reasons. I am not a fan of horn speakers but at the end of the day, it is simply a matter of preference. The deal that is being offered on newegg looks like a good deal for the price. If this is firsrt Ht, IMO he will not be disappointed.

I'd rather stick ice picks in my ears than listen to music on Klipsch. Especially rock music. Most of it is recorded too hot as it is.
Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.
    Thanks

For straight HT use, The Klipsch would be awesome at that price. Like most everyone else, though, I would not consider them to be in the same league as Polk for music.
    Ludicrous gibs!

How big of a hole would you have to plug to retrofit Klipschs with some RDOs ?
