I have a pair of rti12s that I would like to put more power to .This would be my first amp what would be a good one to start with.

Parasound, Rotel, Sunfire, B&K, Adcom, Nad, Emotiva, Outlaw are all good brands. Buying used yields good bang for the buck, and the last two names are reasonably priced brand new.

Look for a nice used Adcom 555. Its a great start with good clean power and has a very good resale value. Keep in mind you will still need a nice preamp.

I can get a caver av-500x for a good price any comments on that amp . And how will it drive my rti 12s ?

Here is a link with some opinions on the carver...My suggestion is if you can test drive the amp with your gear and you are happy then go for it
