Picked up a new turntable yesterday

It fit my budget and it is a definite upgrade to what I had before. Thanks again to all that answered my questions in my other turntable thread.

Anyway, I ended up going with the Project Genie Mk III with an included Ortofon 2M Red cartridge. Thanks polkapolka for the suggestion on the Genie. I had not looked at that model! Went to the store and they had the two that I was looking at and the Genie as well. Rega P1, Project Debut and the Genie MkIII are the ones that I narrowed it down to.

I was going to purchase from the website Insound which is based out of New York as they have a 20% off sale on turntables, but if I had problems it would have been costly and difficult to obtain assistance.

I ended up in a local downtown store and picked it up for 500.00 Canadian. They set it up for me and I brought it home.
What a difference from my Audio Technica AT-120. More refined, clear sound and no hum! :)

Thanks again for the assistance.

That's a nice looking table. But what keeps the Belt in place on the platter?

Thanks guys, so far Rush, America self titled and then The Bealtes, Abbey Road. By the end of the night I may get into some Classic Records release "Neil Young, Live at Massey Hall!"

The belt stays on by the tension from the pulley on the motor and the table spinning true. Neat thing about the table is that it has a separate motor unit. Any noise and/or vibration from the motor doesn't interfere with the delicate pickup area. The entire table is made out of mdf (press board/particle board.)

So far so good. I now I menitoned that it is clearer, I think it is that it now has more separation and I can pick out the music better. This is considered an entry/starting point, I could only image the sound from some of the tables that a lot of the members have here. Wow!

I will say that the Polk Audio Rti A9's really like the new table!

RCM...maybe later, if RCM means record cleaning machine! :)

Congrats on a beautiful table! Glad I could be of some help. That is the one I would get if I had $500 to spend on a table. Also, I think it was smart on your part to get it locally. It is always good to support local business, especially since the benefits you receive usually far outweigh any price difference you may encounter.

I am jealous too, lol! Will you give us a review of the table when you get some hours on it, and get some time, please?

I know I would really enjoy hearing a personal review on that table vs. your Technics table. BTW, what are you gonna do with your old table?

    Happy listening,

So you paid $500 Canadian, what is that like $50 US. Just kidding.

Very nice looking table. Enjoy it.

lol, have you been hiding under a rock? :) The Canadian dollar is stronger then the US green back. I agree it was not always like that but in the last few years we have been hovering around par and now it is above.

    Thanks for the words.

I am going to hold on to the Audio Technica table for a little bit. When I bought the Pro-Ject, they said they would take the AT 120 off my hands for 170.00 CAD. Oh sorry that would be 25.00 US! :)

... plus the deep V-grove on the drive pulley.

    Beautiful simplicity... Congrats and enjoy...
    More later,
