I can think of 2....

Queen Playing opening act to Mott the Hoople....

ZZ Top playing before Lynard Skynard (although thats a pretty close call)

1973 and 74 respectively

    pat martino opening for al dimeola!:eek:

    oh yeah, pat blew him away in a very understated style...dimeola had a lot of pyrotechnics and choreography. after awhile he started repeating himself..pat martino is bad-****!

    Fabulous Thunderbirds opened for Bonnie Raitt at Wolftrap in Virginia! No "blowing away" but both gave top bill quality shows!:biggrin:

    .38 Special opened for Journey in 1978 I think. We never heard of .38 Special before and we thought about not showing up at the concert until just before Journey took the stage.

    Molley Hatchet opening for ac\dc on the Highway to hell tour ....They had so many guitarist's they had 5 guitar solo's for every song :wink: but ac\dc kicked butt also....so much so our gang went to seem them in Dallas that very next week after seeing them in Odessa

    Burning Brides opening for Audio Slave...Burning Brides rocked the house & a 3 piece band none the less

    Motley Crue opening for OZZY in 83 I think

    Back when both these bands were raw Metal and tore up the stage..Ozzy and no chance..

    Screaming Trees opened for Soul Asylum. It totally made them uneccesary and Dave Pirner was not pleased so he walked off stage after about 4 songs....total **** bag.
    CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

    Tesla, on their first tour, opening for David Lee Roth.
    Queensryche (Operation: Mindcrime) opening for Metallica.

    Best last-minute substitution: Opening for Iron Maiden....supposed to be Guns N Roses, the replacement? Megadeth. Not bad for a $10 concert ticket.:cool:

    I saw Led Zeppelin in 1969 on their first American tour when they opened for Country Joe and the Fish at the Fillmore (Carousel Ballroom) in San Francisco.

    Steely Dan was warm up band for Savoy Brown. No One had ever heard of Steely Dan, and they blew everyone away. Not long afterward, their first album came out, and the rest is history.

    I was thinking of the exact same concert...Metallica/Ozzy. What was it?...Ultimate Sin...if I remember right. Had 5th row floor seats midstage, back when the Cleveland Colliseum still existed.

    Soundgarden opening for Guns-n-Roses.Axl was on the rag as usual and sucked their show up bad.Garden rocked the house,been a fan ever since.

    Montrose opening for .... Joe Walsh (?) in San Francisco in 73. Can't remember the headliner, but the first 4 notes of "Rock the Nation" and it was all over but the shouting.

    BTW, dragon, you may know but I can't remember for the life of me if the concerts I saw from late 72 until 75 in San Francisco were at what we called Fillmore West or Bill Graham's Winterland.
    Memories a little fuzzy for some reason .... from the time we left TI and made it over the Bay Bridge was sort of ..... well ....... :redface:

    Like I said, I worked for CBS records, I assume tickets sells were low, because they gave free tickets to anyone that wanted to go, both acts were on CBS' lable, and yes, my GF at the time and wife now, wanted to see George Michael, I drank myself into a foggy haze and slept through George Michael, all I remember is Susanna Hoffs was hot

    Dio's Dream Evil tour in the 80's. Megadeth opened, I'd never heard of them prior to that show. But ohhhh man......:cool:
