An Important Message from Polk

In the spring of 1996, we opened this website with a vision of providing information, advice and a place for members of the Polk "family" to gather and share their experiences.
This forum opened at the same time. To the best of my knowledge, it was the first by any manufacturer in the consumer electronics industry. We debated whether we would be exposing ourselves if we ran an open and un-moderated forum but, in the end, concluded that the an honest bulletin board was best for you and us (even though we sometimes have to take our medicine in public).
We envisioned an active, entertaining and informative population of Polk owners, believers and enthusiasts being there to welcome the new members of our (and your) family. To help them sort through the confusion that everyone has experienced at some point. To share our enjoyment of music and film. To make them feel that their a member of a special "family." Was this a pipe dream? I don't think so.
You know that we've been true to our promise. I ask now that you take your responsibility seriously.
It's ok to kid and rib other family members. But like in most families, kindness and courtesy is expected. Abuse is a sign of dysfunction. Sometime Dad has to step in.
Unfortunately, I have to be Dad now. Sit down and listen to what I have to say. When I'm through, you can talk.
For some time now, the exchanges from and between certain individuals on the forum have been getting increasing vile (you know who you are). I know for a fact that some newbies have been run off by abuse and scorn. That is not the Polk way. If you haven't figured it out by know, we're pretty friendly. We are thrilled add new members to our family - just as we once welcomed you. They're your family too - so be nice.
This forum, and by extension your postings, are a reflection on Polk Audio. And we're very serious about our reputation.
I hope you will take this message to heart. For now, this is all I'll say. Let's see if everyone will act responsibly.
Thank you for being in the family. We're glad to have you - all of you.

Excellent!
Peace Out~:DIf...
Ron dislikes a film = go out and buy it.
Ron loves a film = don't even rent. -
This is good stuff.
-gulp-
I'll be good.
RCheck your lips at the door woman. Shake your hips like battleships. Yeah, all the white girls trip when I sing at Sunday service. -
I knew if we were bad enough, that Dad would turn this forum around. Good job Polk!!!
Danny -
Sounds fair and just, I will do my best to honor your desires.

I think it's great that Polk provides this forum as a place to share our experiences and work out problems. Further, I think that Micah and Justin and all the others involved here do a fine job.
Obviously those of us who are on the board frequently have many interests in common, besides just Polk speakers. It's unfortunate that sometimes people decide to display their "bad side" on here for all to see.
I would humbly suggest that if you see something that offends you, or if you feel someone has attacked you personally, either simply ignore it and go on about your business, or report your problem to a moderator (I'm sure Micah will appreciate that ). It's difficult to ignore the people who irritate you, but that's probably the best way to make them go away.
This may have all been said before, but I felt it was worth repeating. I enjoy reading this board and I think that, overall, this is a good group. I'll shut up now..

Another fine example of why Polk Audio is truly "The People's Company"

SORRY DAD!
I know I've said some things that I regret. I might have been just caught up in the moment, but I should have known better.
I love this forum. Every time I turn on my computer this is the first site I go to. It is informative, entertaining and fun. What more could a person ask for?
Come back newbies. I yearn for your questions, answers and suggestions.
On the other hand. If we get REALLY rambunctious maybe we can hear from "the MAN himself". Would Matt be the Godfather? I'm kidding of course! Let's keep it civil.Make it Funky! -
heheh this is why I like polk, gives me that warm fuzzy feeling
and lets all sing now .... "We are the world!!! We are the children!!" come on next poster continue the song! -
Well put Pops,
I am thinking that you are somewhat like my pop, that being said, I will try to never do wrong in your eyes if I can help it. Getting kicked out of this forum would be as bad as one of my father's rare, but rough butt-kickin's. Granted, I deserved them when I got them, but I did not want them at all. He taught me to be nice to everyone and what not to do, I am glad to see you doing the same here. The world would be so much more friendly if there were more people with hearts like my father's and yours.

I'm so glad to see a fair site and I'm ever so glad I bought Polk. That's why I searched the site out on the web. I don't "chat" much 'cause the subjects don't interest me or the postings are a turn off. Bravo to Polk for all of this!"Watch out for snakes!"

Hey TheOneRod -- thanks for stopping by on the forum! By all means post something interesting. We're starving for interesting forum postings!
Don't just talk about it, do something!

Cool!

What I ment to say is that I don't post on OTHER sites because of those reasons. I love the way THIS site operates.
As soon as I get something really interesting I'll let you guys know.

Micah played Papa Smurf before going to work for Polk.
Where else could a Smurf work after such a great show.

I think this should be made a sticky.

Hahaha... I thought this was a new thread until I got to the post by crystal-clear or whatever, and noticed that they only had something like 19 posts since 2001, I thought HOLY LURKER! So I looked at the post date.... ahhhhh!
I wouldn't have remembered this thread, as it was before I was around hereLudicrous gibs! -
Thanks Al, it is nice to see some monitoring. Most of the time I have recieved excellent advice from members and even made a few long distance friends. There have been times when the response was less than professional. Intimidation is a method used by the insecure. Teaching is a method used by the mature. As Peter Truman would say "That's not news, but that too is reality." For the Canadian North, I'm MCW.Michael
