Welcome to Club Polk.
Unfortunately you cannot add an amp to your Onkyo, it doesn't have preouts. You will have to upgrade your receiver to at least the 70x version.
Biamping with just the receiver is a waste of time, since you are not getting anymore power to the speakers as it is all coming from the receiver.Marantz AV-7705 PrePro, Classé 5 channel 200wpc Amp, Oppo 103 BluRay, Rotel RCD-1072 CDP, Sony XBR-49X800E TV, Polk S60 Main Speakers, Polk ES30 Center Channel, Polk S15 Surround Speakers SVS SB12-NSD x2 -
WELCOME TO CLUB POLK!
Cathy is right! If you want to use an amp for the M-70s you have to have at least a 700 series Onkyo? But the 608 can power everything you now have well enough. My system is very similar and I've run it off both an Onkyo 605 and an 805. The 805, of course has a bit more OOOMPH....but things sounded fine on the 605 in a smaller/medium sized room.
Enjoy....that's a nice setup!

Thanks for the welcomes, and everyone's input. I am pretty baffled as to why I was banned before I even put up my first post also, lol.
Yeah, I was afraid that was going to be the answer after reading other threads on other sites. I am very pleased with my current setup as-is, my first non-HTIB system. I am just curious as to how much the Monitor 70s would improve being driven by a higher powered external amp. Pre outs for an amp would also have allowed me to "future-proof" my system if i were to add front speakers of a higher quality later down the road. I guess for now, repaying student loans takes priority, lol. -
Don't sweat it, the 608 will be fine with that set for now! You'll be happy.
What an external amp does for the M-70s is mostly improve it's two channel music presentation, i.e., tightens up and strengthens the bass, improves imaging and soundstage and cleans up the top end some. Overall gives the two speakers more AUTHORITY!
But for HT...you won't notice that much with a good sub playing!
