I in fact got my Monitor 70s (cherry) from NewEgg Dec '09 for $179 a piece. Their prices normally fluctuate a lot and frequently. Normally they discount one or two of each type (bookshelf or floorstanding) at a time. Great price for a great speaker.

I just bought a pair of M70 series II. What is the difference between the original M70 & M70II. I look at the specs and the original M70 has two 6.5 woofer and two 6.5 sub-woofer. On the other hand the series II which has, four 6.5" Bi-Laminate composite dynamic balance drivers .The only reason i'm asking is that the older M70 i've read that no separate sub woofer is needed. Is this also true on the M70II ??

They are identical speakers, except for the color of bezel around the speakers, and the I's have a grey grill, where the II's have black. I'm too lazy to get off the couch and take my grills off to see what color bezels they are. Just sayin'

I bought a pair of Monitor 70s series I a few weeks ago from J&R for sub-400 bucks. Very happy with them. You'll be happy you jumped on them, seeing as how they appear to be getting phased out by the TSi (?) line of speakers. For the money, amazing quality.
