I quit smoking! After 23 years of smoking I woke up and said I did not want to do it anymore and have not smoked again. I can not stand cigarette smoke anymore and I feel so much better now than I did before. I walk for at least 5 miles every day and sometimes more on the weekends. There was no way I could do that when I was smoking. I am so happy that I was finally able to kick the habit.

Good for you! I quit for the New Year myself (19 days and counting). I had smoked off and on for over 30 years, and finally decided it was time to give it up for good.

Rick, same here! I decided new years eve I was done. I quit cold turkey, no patches, pills or gum. So far so good.

    Congrats Dave!!!!!

I've also been "quitting" on and off for the past 4 years. I think this time I did it. Been smoke free for 18 months.

I smoked for over 30 years and had NEVER tried to quit before. If I can do it, anyone can do it.

Good for you Dave. This spring it will be 23 years without a single drag after 20 years of smoking. I was up to 2-3 packs a day...and honestly...I don't miss it one bit. When you get to my age you will be REALLY glad you stopped when you did. Keep it up!

Thanks everyone. Rick and Gary I know both of you can do it. I found the trick is that you really have to want to quit. I tried quitting many times but I failed because I dont think I really wanted to quit or was trying for friends and family. When I finally said to myself im done it was easy. I chewed on a straw for the first couple of weeks to help get over the physical part of it. I also gained 50 pounds but I rather have the extra weight.

Congratulations! I don't remember exactly when I quit, but I think it was September 2007...so I'll be closing in on 4 years this fall. Cold turkey, no 'drugs' or anything. I believe that's the best way to ensure you'll never be back to it. I haven't had a single cigarette or puff since then. No mistakes or setbacks, either, and I prided myself on that.

Unlike others here, I'd still love to have a cigarette. I enjoyed smoking, especially when out with people having a few drinks. I know how they made me feel, though, which is why I quit.

Now that you've done this, do you realize you can conquer other things you didn't think you could before? I've used it as motivation for others things, and it pays off.

I found out I had way more willpower than I ever thought I did.

Congrats. I quit last March, just realized it's comming up on a year already. Haven't really thought about it for months. I only tried to quit once before in 1993, made it about a year that time, but was thinking about them almost everyday. This time I think it's for good.

Can't afford to smoke these days anyways, I was rolling my own for about $1 a pack, now it's about $5 to roll your own. And I noticed premades were going for $7.50 a pack + tax when I was paying for my gas last friday. That's just crazy

Outstanding Dave; that's a tough battle!

I am now 1 year clean from cigs as well. I quit about a week after my ex left last year, which was January 6th. Hah, and I've also gained about 50 lbs in the last year, but I was actually under weight last year...

I used cold turkey, but honestly, whatever method gets you to the finish line is a fruitful one!

    Great work, Dave!

Smoking...not a good thing for you! I've never smoked myself, so I can't fully identify with how difficult it must be to quit and stay away from it.

When I was a kid a little younger than Sal. My father was smoking and I asked him what it was like and if I could try one. He took me outside, lit one up and handed it to me as he watched (he never smoked much himself...wasn't really a smoker) as I proceeded to gag, cough, burn myself and spit the cigarette out of my mouth to the ground below. I was 6 or 7. That was IT. Never looked at a cigarette again, EVER!

Hey Dave I quit too. I was rolling my own like Bill, but like he said the price just went up too much. I quit cold turkey with no withdrawals or weight gain. OK the bad news. I smoke when I drink. The good news I hardly ever drink:smile:
    Congrats Bro
