Headphone Rig - Cable Upgrade Result

Hey Guys,
I just snapped in a Zu Mobius cable for my Sennheiser HD650 cans. This has to be the most amazing cable upgrade I have ever experienced. I have never heard headphones sound so three dimensional before in my life. Not to mention the midrange and highs have really come into focus. Wow this is exceptional.
I did have one odd side effect however. The cans now seem to require me to turn the volume knob up higher before achieving my normal listening levels. This effect of the cable upgrade has been duplicated using both my Prism Orpheus Headphone section and my Wood Audio WA6 Headphone amp. Can the material of a cable do this? I'd say I have to turn the volume up a quarter or more from where I used to. That's a considerable distance. Any ideas?
Regards,
Mike

Hey Mike,
I'm thinking about getting some Senn 600 or 650's. Have you heard the 600? If so how do you think they compare. Also some internet reviews say that the 650's sound warm and colored. What's your perspective on this. thanks -

Loving my AKG 702's, just wish I would've gone with the HD650's since I've always loved the way they sound.Truck setup

Polk SR6500
Polk SR5250
Polk SR104Any clue how to use the internet? Found it in about 10 sec. -
Higher resistance/impedance would cause the effect the OP is talking about. You're can amp's ability to handle that higher resistance would change (or not) the sound in some way, depending on exactly what that change means to the amp.TNRabbit

I've got a 20' Cardas with mine. The best cable for the Senn is a
"APURESOUND" . I had a chance to try it out at the DFW headfi meet.
Let the anti-cable crowd rant all they want. If they can't hear the
difference from the stock cable, then it's hopeless.
BTW, if you think the hd650 sounds good, DO NOT LISTEN TO ANY
STAX HEADPHONES. This will result in a massive hit on your savings
account, and your wife will leave you."The legitimate powers of government extend to such acts only as are injurious to others. But it does me no injury for my neighbour to say there are twenty gods, or no god. It neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg." --Thomas Jefferson -

Stax is awesome. This is the best HD650 cable bar none. http://stefanaudioart.com/Voice%20HD650%20headphones%20Single%20Ended.html
But, with that kind of money, you should buy STAX. -
As for the 600, I hav never heard it, but I love my 650s w/ Mobius Cable. THese cans transform with a good cable.

That much for a SINGLE ended cable?
I think not. I'd go to balanced, and have enough left over to
help pay for a balanced amp.
Stax is pretty much the go to headphones here.
The Senn is sitting back in it's box. For more casual use,
the Grado's fit the bill. Gee, I guess having three sets
of stax and 3 amps/1 engergizer is a bit much?
Good news, it's a lot easier to hide half a dozen headphones
than half a dozen speakers."The legitimate powers of government extend to such acts only as are injurious to others. But it does me no injury for my neighbour to say there are twenty gods, or no god. It neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg." --Thomas Jefferson
