I want to roll power tubes and am down to two contenders, the Shuguang Treasure 6CA7 vs Gold Lion KT 77 Reissue. I currently use a matched quad of Russian 6P3S-E that I got from Jim McShane (nice tubes!). I need opinions from people who have heard both tubes. My current tube amp setup:

JWN Stereo 6L6/5881/EL34 Push-Pull, tetrode mode amplifier. Approx. 30WPC with 6L6/5881 and 40WPC with EL34. 2-5R4 rectifiers, 2-12Au7 inverters and a 6SN7 input tube. All auto bias and auto balance. Cathode bias. All top quality, tight tolerance resistors and caps are used, over 1000uf of capacitance. The power supply is nice and hefty. Iron is vintage Woodward-Shoemaker. Output impedance is 8 ohm, lower loads are not a problem with this amp. I use a Dared SL2000a Tube Pre-amp with RCA 5Y3 Rectifier and 2-Mullard NOS 12AT7's.

Any experience with these tubes you can share would be a huge help.

leaves me out as I have not heard the GL KT 77s.

I can tell you the treasure KT88s with 120 hours are slaying Tung Sol (vintage) 3 hole 6550s.

as to the Dared Sl2000A, I use one as well and old Brimar or Mullard 5Z4P in the rectifier position is the best I've heard. I have a few RCA's and they were alright. I also tried the Bendix 6106 (5Y3) and the Brimar I have sounds so much fuller, wider and has more weight.

In the 12AT7 position I use either Telefunkens or Valvo Hamburg with the TFK ECC801S and Valvo 6201 Gold Pins sounding the best in my set-up.

    Not sure on the KT77's.

"Appreciation of audio is a completely subjective human experience. Measurements can provide a measure of insight, but are no substitute for human judgment. Why are we looking to reduce a subjective experience to objective criteria anyway? The subtleties of music and audio reproduction are for those who appreciate it. I stand corrected on my Dared rectifier tube. I use a GE 5y3. Don't know where my mind was *grin* I have heard nothing but glowing reports on the Brimar's. I just ordered the Psvane 12AT7's to try in lieu of the Mullards, so I will give my report on them soon. I do really think highly of this Dared preamp.

I just have to figure out the power tubes to use on my amplifier
