What is "reported"?

When someone types "REPORTED", who are they reporting the offensive or insensitive post to? The moderators? And the moderators are keeping a running tally people who get "reported", and then at some number these people get "banned"? And the moderators, and Polk Audio who spends the money keep this forum up and running, have nothing better to do than keep track of the number of "reports"?

I reported your reportedPolkFest 2012, who's going>?
Vancouver, Canada Sept 30th, 2012 - Madonna concert  -
For the most part, they are a response to the spammers who post "FOR SALE: NOKIA PHONES", etc in about a dozen different threads within a couple of minutes.
Person seeing them "Reports" them to a Mod, who then deletes the entire post.
.... which leaves the "REPORTED" post.
.... to make you feel guilty.Sal Palooza -
When I report a spammer I post "reported" so others do not flood the mods with duplicate reportsPlease. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.
Thanks

Underneath your name is a button entitled "Report This Post". Most people typically use it if an outsider spams the forum. I imagine it sends a notification or email to the admins who then check out the posting and ban the offender. Often the person reporting the abuse will often post "reported" in the thread to alert others that they alerted the admins.
It's not necessary to post to the thread with the message, "reported", but it can be helpful. Of course I did this once and got lumped in with the spammer and was banned for three days until it got straightened out. It happened to someone else too. Apparently the forum's software automatically selects the last post or something like that.
Of course it could be used against regular users who get out of line, i.e. break the rules. The admins have rules on handling the offender, i.e. warnings, temporary suspensions, and then finally outright banning. -

Meant to address this in my previous post, but the answer is ..... No, they don't.
They pretty much sit around all day, eating Cheese Puffs, drinking cokes, prank calling Walgreens, etc ("Hey, do you have Prince Albert in a can ?"), and generally try to look busy. Sometimes they're not successful, and then they don't get to be Moderators any more (limousine privileges taken away, etc).
I'm pretty sure that's how it works.Sal Palooza -

Someone asked this recently....but, who actually buys anything via spam? Isn't 99% of all spam some type of scam??? I dunno... -

REPORTED for complaning about the reporting rule
Oh...not complaining, just want to stay off the list. It also seems alot of folks "reporting" each other lately. I would hate to get booted off this forum and then be forced to a lifetime of trolling other inferior forums and while be sub-consciously subjected to endless advertising for gear which I would never had bought in the first place. -
When you report a post, moderators receive an email detailing what post was reported, and what the reason was that was given by the reportee.
It is up to the mod to decide if they are going to do anything about the reported post (delete it, issue warnings, close the thread, etc).
It also gets logged in a moderators-only section of the forum.
If you report a post, it's generally better not to post "REPORTED" underneath. This is especially true if you are reporting a single post within a thread, as now the moderator has to go through and remove not only the spammer/troll's post, but also your "reported" post, to keep the thread clean. If you're posting in a thread that was started as spam, the mods can easily just delete the entire thread and all the other posts will go with it.Ludicrous gibs! -

Also note that lately, a lot of people have been saying that they're going to report (or already have) someone, as a joke, but don't actually do the reporting.Ludicrous gibs! -
