Hey all,,
I currently own as you can see the dsw 450 and an mp2000. I think i want to replace the dsw450 with a pair of mp4000's and then get another mp2000.
If i do this, should i run the to smaller subs in the rear?,,, or should i also sell the mp 2000 and get 4 mp4000's. Or is all that an overkill. I would like to have even bass all around without have to crank it up to feel the presence of it.
thanks

Four subs, to me, is way overkill, especially for a 15x30 room. Also, I would never mix different models of sub together.
Gears shared to both living room & bedroom:
    Integra DHC-80.3 / Oppo BDP-105 / DirecTV HR24 DVR /APC S15blk PC-UPS
    Living room:
    LSiM707's / LSiM706c / LSiM702 F/X's / dual JL Audio Fathom F113's / Parasound Halo A51 / Panasonic 65" TC-P65VT50
    Bedroom:
    Usher Dancer Mini 2 Diamond DMD's / Logitech SB Touch / W4S STP-SE / W4S DAC-2 / W4S ST-1000 / Samsung 52" LN52B750
    Other rooms:
    Audioengine AP4's / GLOW Audio Sub One / audio-gd NFB-3 DAC / Audioengine N22
    audio-gd NFB-10.2 / Denon AH-D7000

I'd just run dual MP2k's or MP4k's to the front personally but I agree it sounds a lot better when all your subs have the exact same specs. If you run duals to the front and it's not enough then maybe add a matching one to the rear but I don't think you'd need it. If you just love bass and have the coin then buy 4 and call it a day haha:biggrin:

well i found i dont need four subs.. (thanks for the inputs).... I watched Inception last nite and holy @#$! the bass in that movie is awesome! Everything was rattling at certain times during the movie. And i got to say the rx-a2000 avr kicks ****! I was going to get another amp, (emotiva), and a couple of subs, but the only thing i'm going to get is 1 mp4000 to replace the dsw450.

Does anyone know if that will be an improvement, i believe it will as it seems all the vibration comes from the mp2000 which kicks butt for it's size, but i believe the 4000 will go even lower.

Using multiple subs has many other benefits besides increased output. Lower distortion, and a smoother frequency response over a larger area. There are a couple different thoughts on how to achieve this but here is some light reading to get you started:

i recently acquired a second mp4k from a forum member here...all I can say is WOW! The addition of a second sub, as stated above, created a smoother, cleaner hit. The Dark Knight, Inception, even Toy Story 3 really feel like youre in a theater, rather than a home theater in a poorly designed media room.

i also wanted that sub dvouss,,, congrats on your purchase.. I did find one from ecost.com (new) for 814.00, but they're out of stock.

I do have 2 subs now..

Will the mp4000 and 2000 go good together? Buy the way, does anyone have a good suggestion on how to keep my mp2000 from walking on a laminate floor. I did put like an anti skid rubberish stuff under it to keep it from moving, but it doesnt work,,lol.

    Thanks for the links Matt.

Buy a Subdude. I made three for cheap and they work like a charm. Your subs will stop walking.

A Subdude isn't necessarily going to stop the sub from moving on it's own, though it is a move in the right direction. All it does is decouple it from the floor to stop unwanted colorization by way of vibrations (transmission of energy). Using spikes to "grasp" the subdude should help however.

IMO if you sub is moving around that much you either 1.) You haven't level matched the sub to your mains and are running the sub too hot, or 2.) The construction design used was poorly engineered.

it only moves when the scenes get heavy, like huge explosions or real low rumbling, i've read this is an issue with the mp4000. Also, i believe thats why they sell subs with spiked feet, in my case, cant use them.. It's only the mp2000 thats moving, maybe it's the bottom radiator causing it to get light on it's feet. My dsw450 doesnt create the vibration the mp2000 does, but that's ported also, has a place for the air to go
